British Weather

The British weather this year is seriously beginning to piss me off now. How the hell can you advance your skills when all you get is vented winds and rain. Last year wasn't much better. Cant think of a single day so far this year when we have had anything like a decent wind up north. What I would give for 8hrs in a 7mph breeze.

Can't argue with you on this.  I think I've only flown half a dozen times this year and none of them in anything like ideal conditions.

The weather is killing our sport.

Been flying almost every weekend so far this year, and often both Saturday (pair) and Sunday (team). UK south coast, by the way. True, it wasn't always dry, and there have been a few times that the bad weather kept us from going out flying (e.g. this past Saturday), but that's been rare.

The frustration is for us trick kiters looking for that ideal 5-10mph wind range, which has been sadly lacking the last couple of years, Lex

Don't think I'm not keen on that perfect 5-10mph wind! But if it's not there, you adapt, take what you get and make the most of it. Being able to deal with less-than-perfect wind will make you a better flyer overall, and when you then get that perfectly smooth 8mph wind .... sweet bliss!

The weather IS our sport! Get some AoxomoxoA dude!

If you fly stunt kites to win competitions, you won't understand, but if you fly to give pleasure and entertain the audience, you might find AoxomoxoA

If tangled lines are an irritating frustration, you won't understand, but if you find untangling relaxing and therapeutic, you might find AoxomoxoA

If you buy rare and expensive kites and hang them on the wall, you won't understand, but if risk hand-painted washi-paper kites in the elements, you might find AoxomoxoA

If you're struggling to be the fastest buggier in the country, you won't understand, but if you dream of buggying across dry lakes in the gentle zephyrs at 2am, you might find AoxomoxoA

If you build your own kites to save money, you won't understand, but if you sew to try new ideas, you might find AoxomoxoA

If you wouldn't lend your kite to a stranger, you wouldn't understand, but if you're ready to loose or destroy anything you fly, you might find AoxomoxoA

If you enjoy buzzing noisy stunters on the beach, you wouldn't understand, but if you've found the pleasure of a simple, reliable single-line delta, you might find AoxomoxoA

Well, it ain't Nirvana, but AoxomoxoA is second best!
