Re: Dynamic tail weight idea

Nothing wrong with tails! My kids love chasing them. And when I was on holiday the only question I was asked by a couple of people was "how come you don't have a tail on it today? It looks a lot better with the tail on" So rather than changing kites I just put a long tail on the DS ( should I be shot for that?) And the result was lots more people watching.
Didn't do a lot for my learning how to do tricks though, but I can do that on my local field where people are few and far between.

You posed an observation, which was replied to.

Nor do I

Was a decent critique on a critique as far as I'm concerned

''Telling kite geeks you want to modify a Benson kite might not be the best idea you've ever had.''

If that's not a poke in the eye.............

Any way up - Tim supported the thought and it is still an open issue. At least I had a more positive comment from Tim.

It is how fast the weight can travel and maybe limit how far. It is still an interesting addition. Not for every flight, but a tweak for certain flight requirements or performance.

It's different - a change from the norm. A tweak but not permanent.....just get the kite to perform in a different way - and why not?

Why stand still and not push the boundaries?

This is supposed to be about enjoying it.....not being elitist/purist or making snide comments.

Oh do grow up for fuck's sake.

If you can't take a leg pull, or someone disagreeing with you then you should prolly avoid internet/discussion forums.

Regarding your idea - it was pointed out more than once that the idea was not original and had been demonstrated to be a poor one.

Perhaps you could try a liquid as your movable weight...worth investigating? Mercury, water, strawberry milkshake....

Mercury would be bad. Maybe some lead shot?
I had a jack in the box with the weight and it just didn't move consistent enough to be useful.

As the person that wrote it I can tell you that it was no such thing.

Why stand still and not push the boundaries?

I and others went on to explain our experiences and reservations with this definitely not new idea in some detail.

This is supposed to be about enjoying it.....not being elitist/purist or making snide comments.

You should feel entirely free to do as you please with your kite but I, purist and elitist that you wish to characterise me as, would suggest that what you are likely to end up with is an individual kite rather than a better one.

Love and kisses,
Mike.

The movable weight idea does have some merit, but perhaps not in a modern pitchy kite . I have a jitb hiding somewhere, good enough at what it does but it doesn't inspire me to try the weight system on something newer. The main issue, as you say is the transitions weren't fluid enough to be reliable...and the thunk at the end was unsettling.

If not mercury how about?

OK

Bombing out of this forum.....

Too many idiots.

Sorry but attacks are pathetic and small minded.

Ok I have ideas - but no need to pull them down. Just say it been tried or attempted -with info why?

I am a member of a few dedicated sites for cars etc, but I have yet to find the hostility I have found here...................

Good luck........I do not need you to enjoy my kites.

I will not be back...........

You mistake humour for hostility.

Most of us that have been around a while have tried Level One's efforts on this, it wasn't consistent as has been pointed out.

I think that you thought you were being innovative and took exception to the fact we weren't wowed by your idea!

Good luck elsewhere :)

Not sure this is a reasonable reaction.

If you posted in your car forum your new idea that turned out to be last ever used in the Ford Pinto...because it did not work, the other members would not tell you?

No one said you were an old not so great idea. They said a moving tail weight is an old not so great idea.
