Claire and I are intending to be there. Someone mentioned paris/team tips - we can give a little advice on that at a basic level.

I'm not going to be able to make this one unfortunately - I'm on-call that weekend.

Have a good one to all those attending - hoping the wind will be good for you.

Date: Sunday 31 January 2010
Venue: Bristol Downs
Time: From 10.30am for general flying and Better Flying Day style coaching. Competition for those interested from 1pm.
Competition: Whatever there is enough demand for but as a minimum individual and pair figures, tricks and, if there is demand and time, team and multi line as well.

Weather looks cold but hopefully dry and reasonable winds in the 10mph +/- 2mph range.

Plan is to meet where it is marked "Gorge". I aim to be there by 10.30 but whenever you can make it really. Competition stuff will start at 1pm. Better Flying Day antics (i.e. fly your kite and ask for help if you need it) will last all day and hopefully there will be enough people to teach and learn. As long as it is not too cold will probably head home around 3.30 - 4pm.

PM me if you need my mobile number for on the day directions (not that I can be relied on, ended up almost in Exeter trying to find the M5 north last time).

Will post here by Saturday night if the weather looks terrible and it's not worth bothering so please check before you leave.

Look forward to seeing you all there and hopefully to seeing some new faces as well. Shame some of the BFD regulars can't make it but picking a date that suits everyone is an impossibility.

Thanks to Paul for a great (1st) flying day! It was nice to meet new people who love flying and not afraid to give advice or a helping hand. Thanks again

The winds were pretty good to begin with (but not enough for happy precision) rising later in the day (but too much for happy tricking).

as far as it goes though a very good day for a winter league, thanks to everyone who came along, was also great to see Mark's new "red" kite. Very cute

Thanks everyone for a very good turnout on what was quite a cold day. Just glad the forecast sleet did not arrive.

....and here are the results:

Dual individual:

DI02 Circle, DI08 Pyramid, DI05 Lap and Snap

1st Bryan 72.5
2nd Claire 58.5
3rd Jon 55.5
4th Al 55
5th Dave 53.5
6th James 47

Dual Pairs:

DP15 Thread and Roll, DP03 Circles Over Diamonds, DP07 H

1st Bryan/Philip 62.1 (Thanks to Al for some very precise precision marking!)
2nd Philip/Claire 62
3rd Al/Jon 53
4th Dave/James 40

Just before I left I got chatting to a local out for a walk. He told me that a while back they tried to ban kite flying on the Downs but someone reminded them of George Pocock who apparently was one of the first to use kites as a form of traction and used to practice on Bristol Downs. As a result they decided that kite flying was part of the local heritage and decided a ban would not be appropriate. Well done George!

I would just like to say a big thank you to all who gave help and advice.

Our DS suffered a bit in the low winds, being a standard and new flyers attached to the end of it did not help!
We learned a GREAT deal , and had the privilege to see some of the best in action.
A Great day Paul and Will.
Thanks to all.

I'm really sorry I didn't make it guys.

Too much work and chaos in my life at the moment. I was hoping to make it even for an hour but in the end circumstances worked against me

I'm really glad to hear everyone had such a good time.

I will sort my life out and make it next time :-)
