Just before I left I got chatting to a local out for a walk. He told me that a while back they tried to ban kite flying on the Downs but someone reminded them of
George Pocock who apparently was one of the first to use kites as a form of traction and used to practice on Bristol Downs. As a result they decided that kite flying was part of the local heritage and decided a ban would not be appropriate. Well done George!
