UK Kite Sites

Sun Mar 15, 2009 5:02 pm

I've just added a Google Maps and Google Earth map of UK Kite sites to my website. You'll need the Google Earth browser plug-in to see that version.

Most of the data is from a Google Earth .kml file that misterbleepy put online a couple of years ago (I hope that's OK Keith) which I've added to, so it's possible that some of the comments might be out-of-date, but I doubt if the locations have moved.

Let me know if you find either of these interesting and/or useful.

Anybody up for feedback, since both my local listed sites are sat deep in tree lined valleys and certainly not the best local option.

Meh. The Downs are over-rated. Last time I was there the wind was crap. ;)

That was an awfully long time ago.

New Brighton on the Wirral could do with being on there.

There was a radio report that Caldey Island off Tenby had moved, but it was something like an April 1st gag.

Dunstable Downs is showing for me in both versions. On the Google Maps version the API limits the number of icons shown at any particular zoom level. Zoom in and you'll see more icons.

That's there too - New Brighton, The Dips.

Post here, or PM.

There are three bits of information that I need:
  • The name of the site
  • A description - anything you think is relevant, but keep it short
  • The co-ordinates - these must be Longitude,Latitude in decimal format and can be up to 15 places decimal, ie, The Dips, New Brighton are: -3.064782314106751,53.43697451034346
If I don't get all three bits, it don't get listed.
