Weymouth Kite Festival

Wed Sep 04, 2013 6:44 pm

As you may already be aware, funding for the Weymouth Kite Festival was cut by the council yesterday. Allan Pothecary has asked everyone to e-mail councillor Ian Bruce (ianbruce@weymouth.gov.uk), the spokesman for Tourism and Leisure, and Neil Thornley n.thornley@westdorset-weymouth.gov.uk), the events person, and express your support for the festival, making clear what they will miss out on (socially and financially) if the festival doesn't happen in 2014. Please bcc Allan (close.encounters@virginmedia.com) into any e-mail, so he is aware of the volume of support.

And please pass this message round the kiting community as much as you can!

Great festival, mostly sunny, and with wind ranging from infuriating to sweet. Weymouth debut for Flying Fish, who had a disastrous routine on Monday morning due to virtually unflyable winds riddled with holes, but then really nailed it in the afternoon. Met Peter Powell and had a quick chat with him, so that was really nice as well. Photos here.

Personal impression of the pair- and team-flying at Weymouth now in our blog.
