STACK Fun Flying Weekend

STACK is intending to run a fun flying weekend in September. The idea of the weekend is just to have fun flying kites, with the emphasis on sport kites, and the option to improve or learn new skills if you wish. There will be opportunities to work on precision flying skills, and to have a go at team flying or even join a mega-team if you would like to have a try. Various STACK competitors and members of several teams will be around to provide coaching and help you have a go.

While not specifically a trick flying event, there would be some people with trick skills that could provide some coaching too.

The provisional date for this is 8th and 9th September, however this is flexible, for example if people feel this is to close to the Bristol Festival weekend we could shift it a week.

The venue has yet to be decided, we were hoping to use a beach. However - depending on the number and location of participants - it may be possible to site it somewhere that is central to the majority of attendees.

Before we commit to this event, we would like to have some idea of the number of people who might attend, so please let us know if you would be interested in coming along to such an event.

This event would be open to all, you do not have to be a STACK member. (However if you are not and we end up using a site which is open to the public, you will need to have insurance, possibly via your local kite club.)

Hi Barry

Would definitely be interested, but the weekend of Sept 7/8 is awkward for me, given that I have to work all day on the Saturday. So strong preference from Flying Fish for the weekend of Sept 14/15.

Obviously still interested (it was my idea after all). but our weekends in September are getting booked up, would be nice to have had a definitive date and location by now, less than a month to go is short notice for lots of people.

Hi,
Would love to attend this with my son, I flew a bit of team years ago with a well known team but had to stop when I got in the family way.
Now years later my sons has found my kite bag and is hooked.
I'd like to show him some team flying or even better get him to experience it first hand, he's a quick learner and recon he'd love it. Plus would like to find out about some of the new tricks you guys fly these days.
Should be able to make any weekend in September apart from 14/15th.Last 2 weekends would be best .
I live in Essex so would favour somthing within an hour or two of the Dartford crossing.

The second weekend, 14th and 15th, is currently looking favourite of the two suggested. (And the first weekend was 7th and 8th rather than 8th and 9th). However, we could also look at the following weekend 21st and 22nd.

I am trying to get a feel for which date the majority could get to.

Anyone got any venue suggestions?

We were looking at Brean or Weston, however something more in the middle of the country (or at least the middle of the south) may be easier for some, especially if people are coming from a variety of locations.

We can also make Sep 21/22 (but definitely not 28/29).

Anyone got any venue suggestions?

Just a random thought, but the field used for the Jolly Ups??? No idea whether it can be used, but I guess Roy can tell you more ...

Hi guys
It may be worth mentioning that the Northern Monkeys are meeting at Filey for their second fly in from Friday 13th September until Sunday 15th September. You may want to consider avoiding a clash just in case some of the lads want to travel down
to your event or visa versa.

Cant make 21/22nd ourselves, but that shouldn't prevent it if the majority can.

OK, it seems that whichever weekend is selected there is someone who can't make it [I probably should have realized this would happen before even suggesting a choice :-) ]. Hence in the interest of making it definite, we will stick with the originally proposed date of 7th and 8th of September.

I will contact Dunstable and Kites-Up on Monday regarding the possibility of using their respective sites - Dunstable Downs and the Jolly Up site - as both of these are relatively central. I will try and confirm the location next week. Much as I would have liked to use Brean beach, it really is only convenient for Bryan and me :-)
