Swindon kite festival replacement - September 24th & 25th

Mon Aug 29, 2011 1:22 am

Please see below a message from Arthur Dibble of the WHKF.

Following our decision to stop running the Swindon Kite Festival we want to hold an event similar to the very successful Jolly Ups. We have been trying to find a suitable site and have at last got one. So that we can try it out we are going to run a very minimalistic event this year on 24/25th September. We realise that many of you are already going elsewhere on these dates but we are trying to keep you informed so that if comments are favourable we will go ahead with added facilities next year. Details are below, we have tried to send to as many people as we can but please pass on the word and come and enjoy a Fun Fly. Regards Arthur Dibble (Chairman) and all at WHKF http://www.whkf.org.uk

Location is Lechlade Manor Park grid ref 51°41'47.33"N 1°41'9.91"W
The nearest post code is GL7 3AT. The site entrance is about 200m further out of Lechlade.
Entrance off A417 through cricket club entrance. Please do not use their car park but drive straight though the gate opposite and up to the flying field.
Camping is available from the Friday to Monday for £5. This will help us cover the cost of toilets.
PLEASE NOTE: NO WATER IS AVAILABLE ON SITE AND THERE IS NO CHEMICAL TOILET DISPOSAL FACILITY.
This will be a Fun Fly with no dedicated arenas or allocated areas so trick flyers and single line will have to avoid each other. Until we know how the site works we don't want too many buggies but if it works they should be fine in future years. We hope to have a couple of club tents with a barrel honesty bar. There will be no raffle or auction this year. The field is rough grass kept short by cattle that will be removed for the weekend so you may have to watch your feet. There are a few large trees about but should be plenty of space for most flyers. We will not be applying for height clearance this year and we may have problems in future with the proximity of Fairford and Brize.
Please try and come even if only for a short time so that you can let us know if it is worth putting on a few more facilities and doing it again in the future. Please watch our forum as this is all happening very fast and there may be changes or additional information when we have discussed things with the cricket club.
Jason.
