Off camera I did try to explain to the presenter some of the basics of 'trick flying'....
.......stall the kite....put it on its back.....roll it up...twist it around...ya know, the typical stuff....
she replied, "oh.....are you going to the meal tonight?"

bloody typical hey Mike?

why such a big interest in inflatables and deltas when the real skill is where the trick fliers come in. Shame we didn't even get a few seconds of coverage.

Maybe next time !

Well a similar thing happened at Crantock on the beach. The general public seemed to show little interest in our kiting activities but I observed on Saturday when Richard and myself put up single-liners that there was more interest. Same on Sunday when the KRD Serpent was flying

I can understand that. I have more photos I've taken of serpents than anything else. I absolutely *love* seeing them in the sky - it's a visceral response...

And yes, of course, I love seeing trick flying too. But it's a different response, more in the head than the guts.

Beautiful single liners -proper kites- soaring up to the clouds then floating effortlessly, majestically displaying their colours peacock-like against an intense blue/white canvas.....as against something flipping around like a demented insect buzzing the heads of passerbys-
"he's having trouble keeping that up"
"How high does it go?"

Appreciation of slack line tricks comes from understanding or at least observation and thought. As Caron says, the appeal of SLK's is more instinctive.

2 people approached me asking questions/making comments at Crantock. Both were amazed at what the kite was doing with one actually understanding, to a point, what was going on...

During the last 3 Wirral Kite festivals the PA announcer has walked around the arena describing, in great detail, the different types of kites to the public while completely ignoring the trick flying ........surely our flying was not that bad...a couple of words would have done.
Looks like we're the 'black sheep' within the kiting community.

I agree mike. He could spend 45 mins explaining each individual flag kite but skip over the fact we are pulling off 540 comets flic flak tax machine axel yoyo fade.coms (first to capture that trick on camera wins). Unless there is no wind and we are the only flyers able to get it up (insert funny comment here)

Sorry rant over
