Summer Solstice - Stonehenge

Sat Jun 12, 2004 11:14 am

I've always wanted to fly at Stonehenge on the solstice. This year it's on Monday June 21st.

Anyone else up for it?

There should be plenty of room to fly and there's parking. I'll be there from about 7:30pm, come and axel over the stones with me as the sun sets on the longest day of the year.

Jason are you still up for this, I would love to but am slightly concerned, as Peter said it will probably be quite busy with assorted nutters (us included possibly). What do you think ?

I reckon it's going to be ok. Salisbury plain is a pretty big place and everyone else will be trying to get as close as possible to the stones, whereas we will be trying to get a bit of room.

Since starting this thread I've realised that I've got a day off on that day due to various hospital appointents throughout the day. So I'm planning on getting there earlyish about 4pm, if you PM me your mobile number I'll call you with an update before you leave, saving you a trip if it looks like a non starter. Might be worth the trip though just to see me try and fly whilst attached to a drip on a trolley.

Jason, it looks like you need to be there on Sunday ready for the sunrise on Monday morning according to English Heritage's info - just thought I'd better mention it in case you go on Monday and it's closed :-(

The road closure has now effectively cancelled this fly-in.

Going to try and get over to Stoke Park in Guildford for a fly instead.

Hey Jason, have you got full waterproofs in the van? It doesn't look very promising here in Bracknell at the moment.

Me, a fair weather kite flyer?????

Cheers for the heads up Faith but I think Guildford is immune from foul weather, it's something to do with the high council taxes around there, all the beautiful people club together and pay an extra fair weather tax.

Yes I remember when Guildford was flooding, what a nightmare, to save the place they opened the sluice gates on the river and flooded somewhere else ie. Brooklands, Weybridge. The residents of Brooklands obviously dont pay the same amount of tax and are less beautiful

The one main memory of Guildford was training at Mount Brown and being made to run up and down those hills
