Re: NMKG Filey flyovers '13: 'In' 5-7 July & 'Out' 13-15 Sep

Well it looks like the Northern Monkeys have struck gold by booking this weekend at Filey. The weather forecast couldn't be better. Dawn to dusk sunshine every day with some light sea breezes thrown in for good measure.

We've got some lads traveling up from down south so take things easy on the motorway and have a safe journey boys. Well have some chilled beers in the cooler for when you arrive.

Looks like we will all be meeting up on the Friday afternoon on site where once the tents are pitched we should get some flying in before the early evening communal BBQ. Steve has now prepared the curries for Saturday, he tells us he has made a couple of pots of varying heats so there should be something that suits every ones taste.

We will have a pow wow on the Friday evening and discuss some fun fly events for the Saturady so get your thinking caps on those who are coming.

If you haven't yet made the decision to come over to Filey then please have a good think about it. This could be a weekend to remember. Even if you can just get over for a day then the Northern Monkeys would love to see you.

Were hoping to get some updates and pictures posted up on FA througout the course of the weekend so keep checking in. That's about it really, every things in place. Bring it on.

Steves curry was sublime. Nice flying wind after tea, the wind was a bit lumpy prior. Fantastic day. Bring on tomorrow.

First of all some apologies for not getting some pictures up as the event unfolded. We didn't have WiFi on site and met with technical problems trying to upload from Flickr onto FA.

Well I just got back from Filey, wow. Had a great time. It goes without saying that the sun shone throughout. The winds were best described as variable. As Yan has pointed out the beach session on the Saturday morning was epic, especially for us inland flyers. Saturday afternoon was a challenge on the cliff tops as the winds didn't seem to know which way to blow from. Saturday evening things had settled down and some more great flying was had by all. Sunday started off quiet but by lunch time we were up and flying and that's how it stayed.

It was great to meet up with other flyers, Yan and young Jack who came up from Suffolk. Jack pulled off his first YoYo, By the way Yan, you should be very proud of that lad, he is a credit to you. Great to see Mick down from Scarborough and Shaun who came across from Huddersfield.

So with the barbies running pretty much on constant it was an event that was as much about the people who came as it was about the flying.

Ill get a video up this next week which will include some views of the flying areas around the site. Simon and Ian stayed over till Monday to make the most of the Sun and winds and just to top off a perfect weekend when I got home I had a nice little cardboard tube just arrived from Mark Clements. Could life get any better lol.

As promised, I've put together a little video of the event. In addition to the obvious flying and people shots the video also shows the flying sites available around the campsite. Just a reminder of the next weekend in Filey with the Northern monkeys will be September 13th to 15th so try and get along if you can. Apologies for the auto focus on the camera. I dont have manual over ride.

I think the weekend will live strong in my memory. As already mentioned, the kite flying was great but the company, banter, and chilled atmosphere is what made it.

Great video Steve and your 'quick-hands' section still has me chuckling. Got some pics and maybe some video which I'll sort out in next day or so - I'm just way too tired from 4 days of flying to peel myself from the sofa.

Also, it was nice to meet up with Shaun and Mick from the Northern Kite Group - hopefully the first of many sessions together guys?

And Yan, I hope Jack is feeling better for school lol.
