North / Midlands Meet Ups

Wed Dec 12, 2012 10:31 am

Just testing the waters for a couple of meet ups in the New Year.

Thinking about one at Hinckley once the ground has dried up a bit, probably mid to late March, but what about one earlier in the year at another venue. I'm thinking of somewhere equally accessible from Leeds, the Wirrall and Brummie land. Just struggling for possible venues, other than the Dips or Hinckley, so if anybody has any suggestions for locations please shout.

With my track record for picking dates in the last year, it may be better if somebody else suggests suitable dates. ;)

Over to you guys.

Great idea and I promise not to post any weather forecasts again. Dont know if this has been done before but it may be helpful to know just how many active flyers there are in the Uk and just where they are located. Does anyone have any IT skills to create a map that people can register onto which would show at a glance who is flying and where they are located. Might help to identify where the best place to organise an event would be. From what Ive seen on the forum thers only about 8 to 10 people chipping in on these most recent meeting posts. There must be more flyers out there.

There used to be a map of FA members - if I remember correctly it was built on the "frappr" website, but that is now defunct.

Any suggestions for a good free social mapping site to use for this kind of thing?
Maybe one that can be made private in some way so people have less concerns about sharing their whereabouts?

If you were to go for equal distance/time from those three areas you end up around Buxton (1 hr 30 / 65'ish miles). A beautiful part of the world. Anyone knowledgeable on flying sites in that area?

Looks like an M62 corridor meet up then. ;)

I'm sure there must be a few more interested parties out there. Or are people more intent on partying than flying at the moment? :D

I'm thinking Hinckley in early March, as this venue has a reasonable track record in terms of people meeting up.

Other than that, I might as well come and visit you at Roils Head.

Suggest we pick a date and go for that.

You never know, someone else might turn up. ;)

Open to other suggestions though.

The Nmkg can get to Roils Head, Halifax at a moments notice John. we pretty much meet and fly either at RHead or Ponty on a weekly basis so if theres a break in the weather and you fancy a trip out just drop us a line and Im sure we can pull something together.
The Hinkley meet up sounds great and the Nmkg will also be releasing the dates for Filey shortly so theres plenty to be going at. All we need is some decent weather.
