Novice:
Tony S - 1st
Martin - 2nd
I'd hazard that Steve Rayner was 3rd... haven't worked out where everyone else was.
(Apologies to anyone if I got this wrong??)

Masters:
Chris G - 1st
Andy W - 2nd
Jason - 3rd
Roy - 4th
(Again... 3rd and 4th I'm a little hazy, but I think that's right)

Very good weekend, despite high wind, rain, lack of wind.

Jason flew the Rok into second place, and was let down by my poor knot-work (can't believe it came undone :( ) Great little Rok, very stable.

I second that, and looked great in the air. Did I hear the commentator calling it the broken axel rok though?

Congrats to all the trickout competitors, it was fun to watch :D
Refusing to use the spellchick!

I had a really good day, despite all the showers and random wind. Thanks to the Brighton Kite Flyers for all their hard work putting the event on and to Andy Phelps for the trickout.

Faith, you were right, our roks are done apart from bridles, hopefully have your with me on Wednesday.

Jason.

Plus the good news is that STACK were invited back for next year (despite overrunning in the arena).

We need to make sure that everyone is in the arena and ready to fly at the start of the competition in order to keep the changeover time between heats as short as possible. Overrunning risks not getting invited back.

I mentioned this as a possibility to AP after the event yesterday. If people are on the ball it shouldn't be necessary.

Yes, I enjoyed the trick-outs myself, although I am struggling to commentate quickly enough at the moment;

I think that it is easier to compete. I'll have the updated scores out later today.

I think you did a great job with the commentary, Andy - and the organising.

Thanks

Yeah, but to compensate, Andy has dispensed with using a timepiece for timing the event, resulting in fliers randomly getting anything up to a minute for each of their 30 second sections. :-)

Which may also explain why the event ran over...

No disrespect to Andy, because I'm all in favour of less formal and more fun. But if we are going to keep ongoing scores and declare a national champion on it (which I personally think is a bad idea with this comp) then we should at least make sure that each flier gets the same time to fly.

Also, I would rather have less commentary than more (especially when it digresses into an extended discussion of the commentator's personal preference in kites :-)). Most people don't care what the tricks are called or how easy it is to do on one kite over another. They just want to watch the flying and listen to the music. I think the occasional "Wow, that was a XXXXX trick, that'll impress the judges" is better than a continual stream of commentary.

Hope that doesn't sound like I'm knocking you Andy - you're doing a great job in organising and running these events and we're all most grateful.
