2008's most popular DI competition

Fri Nov 28, 2008 2:41 am

AKA Nationals attracted 27 fliers in 4 classes...
TricksParty Germany drew 21 all season...
EuroCup had 12...

Virtual Freestyle 10 chimed in with 29.

:P

I'm just saying.

TP in Lommel, Belgium...combining BE-D-NL...also 27 DI competitors. Impressive, indeed. Already looking forward to VF...11!

That's hardly my problem :P

If it had been derestricted (even more than it was) do you reckon it might have reached.... 14 ?

How many entries would you have got if the entry fee was ~€50 and there was no prize :P

It has been suggested to me that STACK should not pursue a more commercial footing (ie prizes worth winning) because it will destroy the feel of the competition, VF shows that is hogwash (at least amongst the subset of fliers that take part)

None. Which is probably why it wasn't like that. I'm under no illusions that the attraction of the format is one thing, the attraction of nice prizes is quite another.

In my experience, such as it is, all you can really do is try things that you hope will encourage people to take part and leave it at that. You will not be able to work out some magic formula that will suddenly have them queueing by the judges' tent 'cos it doesn't exist. And people tend to... misrepresent... what it would take to get them to enter anyway.

However.... until I hear differently; Virtual Freestyle - the world's favourite stunt kite competition. :-D

I'm sure that some ad exec could do something with that :D

Nope, I hadn't fallen off the map. Although one would be excused for thinking so...
