Errr.. we might be struggling on the judging for the Tricks Party. Watch this space. I might have to send out the press-gang on sunday night/monday morning to "recruit" a couple.

Well done to everybody that took part. There was some excellent flying on show, and the first Pairs comp was great fun to look at. Wardley and Winter joined in at the end, having judged everybody beforehand and found out just how challenging a trick-on-demand competition can be!! My highlight was ABW's impromptu Reggae dub freestyle at the end of the competition.

We are learning and improving the competition each time. The next Tricks Party will be at the Southampton STACK competition on July 16-17.
Now look out for the first summer Freestyle Trick Thang comps, coming to a festival near you soon!!

I have now watched a few TP's and I have a question

Is the idea of TB ballet more to do with 'synchronising' tricks to music than traditional choreography?

The rewards for creating a truly choreographied routine, as apposed to almost busking it and putting in 'hard' tricks, don't really seem to justify that kind of effort, at least so far anyway.

Any thoughts from judges etc?

What I am finding interseting is watching different people perform the 'imposed' tricks. If you don't recognise a trick at the beginning, you do at the end, and you get a feel of what a 'good' example of each trick is as well.
Refusing to use the spellchick!

I think I had you in the lead, scores for 1st & 2nd are pretty close though. I think Steve's 18 pop cascade probably helped, also, we noticed that a lot of the 2 point landings were landing on their back, or on the standoffs, and then being pulled upright, technically not correct. We all started marking down for this and therefore had to carry on marking it down whenever we saw it to be consistent.

Yup, having looked at the Scoresheets, Steve was scoring 9s and 10s for his imposed tricks, versus 7s and 8s for Dave.
3 judges to 0 for Steve.

Dave's ballet tricks is a stronger score, which appears to be mainly down to attempting slightly simpler tricks and getting better results from them.
2-1 to Dave.

The ballet style scores are near identical for all of the judges.
2-1 to Steve.

Now that we have two Tricks Parties under our belts, I have a range of questions to point at Roger and his team. The guidelines are ambiguous in a number of areas and I want to make sure that we have everything completely up to speed at the next Tricks Party (July 17 - Southampton).
For example, we will add line judges and penalties from the next competition onward.

Thanks especially to Jason, ABW and Matt for helping out with the judging. This is a great help and it is particular good to have "qualified" judges for this competition in it's early stages.
:D
