UK Freestyle Championship 2013

Tue Nov 27, 2012 7:32 pm

Testing the water and trying to pull something together after a nudge from Yan.

This will be a one-off event probably held at the Jolly Up in August, with a dry run or 2 elsewhere through the year. One up at Filey maybe? One down south - maybe the South West, maybe Brighton or somewhere.

At this point there's no involvement from outside agencies - just a one off event run over a 2 day weekend - similar to Stella Plage, but here on home turf.

The format will be (open to discussion) 4 imposed tricks chosen from a pre-announced list, followed by a 2 minute no music technical routine to demonstrate what you can do, and a 3 - 4 minute ballet set to music judged on style and technical content.

Saturday - AM, coaching and arena practice and PM, a big old Trick Out.
Sunday - AM, Imposed tricks and technical routines, and PM, Ballets and results.

So, what we're looking for is...

Competitors (Novice and Masters)
Judges and Field crew (Peer judged is an option)
Arena
PA
Sponorship and prizes
More competitors

Please feel free to join in with discussion.

I can offer my PA for this again but if it clashes with Malmesbury like it did this year I'll probably not be attending myself

Great idea Bryan. As you are aware the Northern Monkeys had two meetings in 2012 at Filey and will be building on that success in 2013 with a further couple of meetings. We usualy look at early July and a follow up in Sepember but as yet have not finalised any dates. We are hoping that some interest may have been generated from our reports on FA and that some more UK flyers will join us when we next meet. We can certainly recommend Filey as a venue.

If you decided that Filey would be a suitable/popular location for what you have in mind then we would fully support the event and could help you out with planning etc. We could even plan our event to coincide with anything that you may plan so that they didnt clash or duplicate.

Hope you manage to get enough support to pull something together. A large event like this would be great for the UK flyers.

It must be possible to do two rounds over two weekends, one up north (where there is alot of support for it) and one down south?

I'd be up for the jolly up if I'm not on holiday at the time.

Oooh I dunno. Filey's a long way from Manchester. ;)

Sunday's are a bit of a no go for me during the summer, but might be able to get over on the Saturday.

I'm with Dave Jolly up for me and if possible would try to make the Northern venue too.

I'll be up for whatever is decided. Would love to see a weekend over at Filey and show you all some Yorkshire hospitality but also quite happy to travel to the Jolly Up as well.

Whether it be making cups of teas, helping on the field, or, gulp, having a fly to provide the laughs - count me in.

Okey, format and admin aside - thus far we could potentially see 3 or 4 competitors for an Upt North and maybe half a dozen for the Jolly Up.

We'll keep this discussion running for as long as it takes 'cos to make this remotely viable, we'll be needing significantly more bodies in the arena. ;-)

I might be able to make this if at Basingstoke.

I'm happy to fly or lay around / ground crew / judge if that is needed.

:-( I can't get to the Jolly up now and have had too much other crap going on to get anything TP like together anyway.

Strangely I have just been approached with a possible venue for next year... the guys at EKP are wanting to run a weekend of all discipline comps next year and we can always piggy back of a SKF weekender at Rougham.

I am convinced that we can get at least two rounds of a Tricks Party style comp in next year. It will probably mean taking it turns to field direct ect...

Tricks Party UK anyone? maybe I should start a FB page and a website....
