EU TP Rules changes

Thu Apr 14, 2011 6:23 pm

Dear Tricksparty pilots,
With many delays we finally present you the new rules for 2011.The reason we made these
changes are because pilots and kites have developed over the years pilots got better. Because
of that the ballets became less divert and somewhat predictable. So the changes are meant to
have more interesting and more divers ballets.
We understand we are very late to announce these changes we hope you will understand we
have jobs, family and other things on our mind off-season.
2011 will be a test year to see how these new rules work in the field and what the pilots think
about them. After season 2011 we will evaluate the season and make some more changes
where needed.
Tricks Groups
The experienced pilots have been asked to fill in a survey regarding reordering the tricks. The
results of this survey have been used to make the new tricks list. The list reflects now better
how the average pilot experiences the difficulty of a trick. Also we reduced the number of groups
to 4.
The new trick groups:
tricks:
Group 1 Group 2 Group 3 Group 4
0-3-6-9 0-4-8-12 0-5-10-15 0-6-12-18
½ axle stop/snapstall yoyo take off reversed cointoss (new)
360 rolling susan reversed flic flac multi slot
insane 2 points landing lewis double axle
backflip slotmachine cointoss multi yoyo (new)
fade flapjack rolling cascade 540 mutex (new)
lazy susan cascade side slide cascade comete (new)
flic flac axle comete crazy copter
yoyo jacobs ladder cynique
combo backspin cascade yofade
insane L/R tazmachine ladole
540 torpille yofade backspin (new)
refeulling yoyo multilazy
spike wapdoowap
k2000 backspins
multi lazy
Style points:
The style point categories are also changed. In previous seasons the judges used to look at 5
different elements in a ballet but from now on we there will only be 2.
Choreography / Musical Interpretation
0-20 multiplied x3
The relation between music and kite movement.
Technical performance / Risk taking
0-20 multiplied x2
The technical performance of the ballet (precision, speed control etc.) and taking risk
(extra tricks/combo’s, position in the window during tricks etc.)
The endscore for ballet will be made up by 50% of the tricks and 50% of the stylepoints (used
to be 60/40)
Regarding safety:
Field directors will be more strict on flying outside the circle.
When a pilots flys outside the field he/she has to stop and walk the kite inside the field.

Haven't had chance to evaluate up to yet, but mixed responses so far on the Eurozone forums.

Any solid reason for the changes - rescaling 50:50 tricks:style seems like an odd one to me as an outsider - 'cos I'm not clear on how this will lead to more diverse routines. :?

Also any chance of clearing up the new trick groups. I'm a bit confused at the moment where each set begins and ends :-D The Yoyo seems to have been downgraded a bit.

Its a bit rough, but the attached file is the grouping (i think)

The groups do deem a bit odd..... yoyo-multilazy scores lower than a lewis.....
But the scoring seems to have been simplified and the tightening up on flying out of the arena is probably a good thing.

It's good that TP will go on...

Thank goddess it's not just me then.

Group 4's "reversed cointoss" interests me hugely - do they mean cointoss one way then back or an Olly/Allee ? Frankly either seems piss easy compared to a cascade comete that's in the same group.

Hardly spectator friendly though is it.

Still way too complicated, why do we need predefined tricks marked separately in the ballet at all?

At least there is motivation to keep the format fresh I suppose.

I've looked at the code and have amended the column layout above to reflect how it should have been. Yan, your Word doc is totally wrong.

But why do they keep spelling axel as if it should be attached to the wheel of a car! It was named after the ice skating jump which was in turn named after a guy called Axel Paulsen who first performed the jump in 1882.

It's all about what the actual competitors think is difficult and the groups have been shuffled accordingly. Having a lewis and yoyo-multilazy in one group might seem odd (i think so) but the pilots scored them almost equally. One of the side-effects of the tricksparty format is that pilots were focussing on the group 4 and 5 tricks in the old list and were not able to do the old school tricks anymore (compulsory tricks were often old school tricks). The kites designed for competition flying also were designed to do those high value tricks. These changes are to try to have people do a larger variety of tricks in their routines.

Axle should be Axel indeed.

Yeah, there's stuff missing - and the scoring will still be as confused and awkward as before. We have had some success over the past couple of seasons pulling events together and running rounds pretty smoothly, and I really do like the format. It is still however, an administrative ball ache and the complexity scares off NOOB types.

I'd ask for UK competitor input and thoughts before making changes to TP UK, but there's only 3 or 4 of us total so wonder whether it's worth the effort.

By adding more of the "older" tricks :?:

Look... if it's what the participants want, keeps them there and more coming in, more power to them. Making "sense" is entirely optional
