Any Colour

Sat Oct 18, 2008 12:21 pm

I don't care what colour my next REV is as long as it will fly in 1 mph , or thereabouts, the 3mph for the SUL would be a luxury, i find myself trying to fly in less than that most of time.
yes I've got SUL with RACE rods and its still hard work, an indoor which is twitchy, and a Flic style with no vent which is ok. :?
This winter i will have a go at a simple 2 piece sail in lightest materials i can find
The low wind version of a REV , would be a seller.

Hi KITE SLINGER and thief
sorry i'm back with enough time to reply

ORCON ? Australian ISP or 3 inch carpet tape ?

i'm obviously missing something here :? !?

so ORCON is a material?
and do you have vent at top and bridle?

what i intend is minimum panels, sewing, reinforcement and weight but made as a REV with vent and bridle.

orcon is a VERY light material that Boeing uses to line the insulation in their airplanes.....
shimmery...got some weird bubbley feel to it...
no vent....no bridle....
one piece of material...
It was discotinued due to flame properties but there are still places to get it....

you can make a rev shaped kite out of anything...try mylar with tape?

the stuff that most people use is Icarex pc31.....quite light...works well....
def. try stuff.....you can modify the shape anyway you want to keep the weight down....try try try......

in no wind I find it helps to fly without the bridle....
I used to fly a standerd rev 1.5 with only the SUL frame indoors,
Old school was a great school

hi fungus.
go on kitebuilder, get yourself some 0.75 or 0.50 oz ripstop nylon.
that should do the job, and frame it in p90.
all the best steve (pudders)

Roy,
If you want to experiment I've got some blue .5oz poly similar to Toray (think Prism or early Gem) and some pink .5oz crisp nylon you can have. Give me a prod before the next MKF fly-in and I'll try to get.

Dave Salmon used to have some grey ripstop which felt as light as the old .5oz Icarex - that might be worth a try if he's got any left. Not super strong ISTR but light and cheap. Also ISTR he or Chalkie had some black Orcon once too but I bet thats long gone :(

to ressurect this:
john ruggerio is running a workshop on the Orcon Avenger....this is his materials list:
"I just went to Hang em High and did a shopping cart of most of the materials for a single Orcon Avenger. This does not include shipping and a couple of small things (bridle line, reinforcing tape for the tips, etc) that go into the kite. As you can see, by the time shipping and incedentals are added in, $100 for the workshop isn't bad.

BTW, I used to make these with SkyShark 2Ps. They are not made any more and the spars in this example are shorter than I would like. Please use the prices below as a rough estimate because of this.

If you still want to do it, please send me an email.

Quantity Part No Item Color Size Cost Each Total Cost
3 1.52xxx 1.5 oz. Slit Nylon Ripstop Strip WHITE $0.30 $0.90
3 ORCON Orcon Film - White White w/poly scrim 51 inch width $9.25 $27.75
6 YSPxx End Cap - Machined YSP54 fits up to .334 $0.75 $4.50
2 SS260 Coupling - External black For SkyShark 2P only $0.65 $1.30
5 WIND2P-30 SkyShark 2P - Carbon -30" Replacement by AVIA SPORT black 30" long $9.25 $46.25
1 SC18 Shock Cord - Elastic black 1/8" $0.40 $0.40
1 SEAM Seamstick Double Sided Tape clear 1/4" wide x 75 yds. $4.75 $4.75
Sub-Total $85.85
Shipping and Handling $0.00
Total $85.85"
