Questions for the Pros

Thu Aug 09, 2007 3:12 pm

may be these are stupid questions but, I really appreciate an answer.

Just finished to build a rev 1.5 and read somewhere on a forum not
to use the bridle but to connect lines directly to vert spars.
Can somebody say adv and disadv of this solutions? I have seen
John, for example , in videos always with bridles.

Next is concerning the small vent gap just under the horizontal spar.
Is it really needed? and why? what happens if not used?

Thanks a lot for your comments

Using a bridle makes it a lot more forgiving. It's harder to control without one.

The mesh is there for a reason. I don't know what the reason is but I'm sure if it flew as well or better without it then it would have been omitted years ago.

If you attach straight to the downspars, you will get a lot of bend in the LE in most wind, which is not fun. Best to put some sort of supporting line there most of the time.
Anyway this cake is great.
It's so delicious and moist

They don't fly good back wards without the mesh. Something to do with the air flow over the spar. You can get away with it on Rev II size kites and small but not really on the Rev 1.5 and definitely not on the Rev I

It doesn't have to be mesh though, I have seen small holes burnt in all along the leading edge.

Thanks for the reply.
I'm building now two of them 1.5 size, one with bridles and vents under the spar and another one without both.
I'll try both in few days and let know the results.
