Begs the question of does anyone have/use those balancing line length gauge thingies?
couldn't be bothered myself, says he using the tight fisted method, rather than the limp wrist...

The winders I use have little hooks on them to help equalise line lengths - but I've not tried them out yet. I got them from Chalkie - they're the ones that come with protec lines I think.

Here's another question then. If one buys a reel of unstretched Dacron, for example, and wants to pre-stretch it before making up linesets, how does one go about this exercise? I was shortening some lines at the weekend and hammered three nails into my garden fence, leaving about 2" sticking out which was bent up to form a hook, over which I placed the already looped and tied ends of my lines. Could I use the same method with unstretched, get it roughly to length plus 500mm for adjustment, wrap the free end around a suitable piece of round tube and the lean back until it stops 'giving'? Or is there a scientific method? :?:

Normally i fly the lines for a bit to stretch them, then stake them out and adjust them with my trusty moran line equaliser.

So top & bottom lines are same weight?

Don’t pull them tight to compare the length, you will never get equal tension on both lines.

Oh yes you can.[1]

First, make both lines approximately the same lenght as you do at present.

Now, put both loops over the same finger and pull tight. Look down the lines.

You will notice that one line (the longer one) hangs lower then the other.

You can work out how much longer it is by pulling the slack one until the dips are the same.

Adjust the knots and re-test. When they both dip together, they are the same lenght and under the same tension.
