Tips for first Rev flight?

Tue Mar 01, 2005 9:11 pm

My shiny 1.5 SLE Rev has just arrived :D

Experienced Revvers: what should I be really careful about on my first flight?

Given that I've been playing with kites of all styles and sizes for a long time, you may wish to avoid the obvious "same line-length" hints...

Thanking yow in advance...

Ed

Don't go for the first time if it's windy. You want a nice calm day about 6mph and you shouldn't get into too many difficulties.

if you've never touched four line before, consider handcuffing your hands together!!!
I was so used to too much arm movement with twin line, and it's a lot more about wrist movement in four line.

anne summers do a nice line in furry handcuffs! :P
I honestly saw someone years back and he had velcro on his jumper to keep his elbows tucked in, and another character who had two false arms on his jumper to hold bottom of handles.
but as jason says, calm day and keep elbows tucked in and pivot handles around your index finger.
have good fun and be careful, its addictive :D

Woody knows - having someone to teach you the moves is the key... no matter how simple or difficult they are. I had a 2 hour session with these guys recently and it helped a lot with basic technique

Walton on THames is not that far, so come and join us up D Downs with the boyz....
Try to get used to having a lot of brake...difficult to learn at first, but it makes those tricks easier to perform in the long run.
Try not to do the flying at low level, keep them high in the sky, those spars are fairly expensive to replace...Going to bed now, put some more on tomorrow

Keep 'em coming one and all...

Useful stuff so far. Oddly, one of the reasons I've got the Rev is that someone saw me flying my 3m Radsail in reverse, doing spins / precision flying using handles rather than arms etc. and asked if I had a Rev. At that point, I'd never seen one. The rest is history, and a miniscule amount of profit for Steve at GWTW!

What time do people play at Dunstable at the w/e? 'Er indoors is working for the next 2 Sundays, so I have the biggest pink ticket in the history of kite flying. And a 3 year old to look after.

If the weather is OK, I'll be there.

Look out for an unfeasibly skinny guy with a hyperactive sprog.
