Davey suggested that excessive tension may have popped the stitching there... when I undid the velcro the seam bust open an inch...

It definitely appears to be the tension in the sail that has bust the thread along the spine.. Just a warning to other N. owners.

I was thinking I might do that... but I'll have to wait until I can get my hands on mylar tape

I think I'll do it tomorrow without, and keep an eye open for mylar tape when I'm out and about... otherwise it's a trip to Newbury in the rain tomorrow...

Quick question for when I put this thing back together...

Longer standoffs on the outside or inside?

Apart from this damage, what shape is the kite in?
If the rest is very good and sorting out this would mean another good while with it, I would get it fixed by someone. There must be someone out there wanting to earn a few bob by fixing kites properly, even on a informal basis. Other wise repair tape on both sides and stich the her up.

re Flexifoil "1 month" repair promise - this is not a guarantee against bad workmanship/materials, but in fact IN ADDITION TO the normal protection, and says they will repair it within one month, even if you trash it by flying it into the ground.

Under trading law, ALL consumer produsts must be "of a saleable quality, and fit for the purposes they were intended for" this, for a kite, should include any tricks, as far as I'm concerned, even deadlauches, and although you may argue that the company is not under any obligation to repair it, I would imaginet that in the very small world of kiting any manufacturer would fall over themselves to help if only to keep a good reputation.

Andy, am thinking that longer outer stand off will produce a flatter channel, which would normally increase lift - the Nirvana UL and SUL a wider spacing between the stand offs to increase this channel width. Conversely, a long inner stand off would likely result in an angled sale, which would reduce the effective AoA. It might need higher winds, and due to the increased horizontal stabiliser effect, might also be more precise. The again I could be talking utter Roger Mellie..

1) I'm fixing it myself.
2) The rest of the kite is in pretty good nick. I'm going to take the opportunity to tidy up a few scruffy bit of dacron.
3) I don't really want to experiment with the standoffs, just want someone to take a look at their Nirvana and tell me which way round it is.
 ;)

Stitching's not perfect, but it's strong and taped now.
