Jest of Eve Trident Spars

Sun Aug 08, 2021 1:08 pm

Hi there,

The Jest of Eve Trident upper spreader spar. I know its 5.5mm carbon - but what is the length of it?

At some point in the past it seems to have parted company with the kite so I need to cut a new one.

I normally made measurements of things like this - but, as luck wouldn't have it, not this kite :-)

Thanks

Jan

Hi Jan;

Maybe Mark, or someone who has the kite, will see your inquiry and get you the particulars, but here is some info in the meantime.

According to specs on the old jestofeve site (via the wayback machine) the upper spreaders on the Tridents are of 5mm structil (rather than 5.5mm). I could not make the page which gives lengths work, but here is the JoE link on wayback:

https://web.archive.org/web/20080828034251/http://www.jestofevekites.com/standard.htm#Specs

(Wayback is useful if spotty as a research device but glad to have it anyways.)

The upper spreader on the JoE sister kite, the Talon, is also of 5mm, and mine measures up at 53.5cm on the Std, 1/2 cm less on the UL.

Believe the wingspans of the Trident and Talon are similar, so perhaps set up the kite and eyeball it - consider a slightly longer piece to start, say by a few cms and pare back till it looks/flies right.

(I realise this is kinda vague, for which I apologise, but hope it helps.)

Mark has confirmed the measurements on FB.  It is 60cm of 5mm for the record.
