My Builds...

Mon Nov 26, 2018 10:36 am

Hi All,
Just finished my first build 'Le Quartz Ecosse'. ..
Image

Really pleased with the results and had an enjoyable time cutting and sewing thanks to ...
 http://www.tweelijners.com/tom/tomskite ... /Home.html

I'd highly recommend this site for anybody who's thinking of trying a build.
Next step is to get out and fly it but favourable conditions seem few and far between at the moment, had it in the air a couple of times and love it, looking forward to better winds though.
In the mean time it's on to more building projects.
Definately caught the building bug ;)

Ian

Really impressive kite, great job. Post a video when you get some air, I’d like to see that in action!

Hi Ianm,

What’s the verdict on your kite? I’m interested to know how it handles? Let us know!

I had a look at the tweelijners website you recommended too, great projects to work on. I see a picture of your kite is featured as one of the completed models... great job!
At some point in my life, I’ll have a go at one of those!

Go for it Bry ! It's an enjoyable process and there's nothing quite like flying something you built yourself.
One downside ...it's addictive !
Here's my next project just finished sewing.....

Waiting on the hardware to be delivered this week sometime hopefully.
Its another Christian Derefat inspired build (based on his Vortex design).
Think i'll call this the  'Maelstrom'   :-D

Looking great already! Did you choose the colour scheme and pattern? I like the name too....could also be a “harlequin”?
Looking forward to seeing the finished product.
I was looking at some of the materials on the website, looks like you need quite a bit of kit and a good size garage to boot.
Where do you get the ripstop from out of curiosity?

Cheers Bry
Yes the sail pattern/colours are my own but the actual design template is from Christian Derefat.
Only kit required is a sewing machine, soldering iron, a big board and a bit of space ... dining table and living room floor in my case :)
Ripstop is from  https://www.thehighwaymen.co.uk/
I am using the 48g mirai at the moment but they do stock a full range including Icarex.

Finished !
Definitely my go to Kite now !. Flew pretty well straight out the bag, thanks to a better understanding of tying bridles (Thanks to Mr Newham :-D http://www.iannewham.com/kitedesign/bridling.html).
So it's down to learning some tricks,  now I have a good kite to do 'em. :-D

And a wee vid ...
My daughter having a first time go at flying, i'm on the camera ..hence the dirty big finger !

There also appears to be a person riding an exceptionally large horse in the background of your picture!

Thank you.
Do us a pic of the DS love to see it.  Hope you get on better than me with the tricks ;-)
That is Robert The Bruce gathering the troops before the charge.  The field is actually part of the battle site of the battle of Bannockburn 1314.
Ian :-)

Will do, it’s a great kite. Very historical Ian! My main flying place is a rugby field when they’re not playing!
