Avia Skinny sul and 3pt Skyshark - Help

Mon Apr 16, 2012 9:47 pm

I am just wondering are these tubes similar to eachother. The weights seeem pretty much the same and I presume they both take a 6mm ferrule? Thanks Harv

Hi,

I've not used the Avia but according to this document (not a clue where i got it from but bloody useful) the stats are:

Avia G-Force Skinny SUL / Skyshark 3PT
Weight: 11g / 12g
Length: 32.5in (82.6cm) / 32.5in (82.6cm)
Deflection: 0.570in (1,4cm) / 0.498in (1.3cm)
Large I.D: 0.2450 (6mm) / 0.2440 (6mm)
Large O.D: 0.2950in (7mm) / 0.2900in (7mm)
Small O.D: 0.158in (4mm) / 0.220in (6mm)

The internal diameter on both is 6mm. Only real difference is the gram of weight and the differing small O.D. as far as i see.

Nice one! Does anyone else have an opinion on this and the difference between the two sticks?

The Avia Skinny are more akin to a 2pt really - The SUL avia are Strong Ultra Light (as opposed to super ultra light), and just a tad heftier are more robust than the regular Skinny UL's. I've always found them a PITA to get hold of and use skyshark as replacements when needed - depends on kite obviously, but never had an issue with the 2pt.

Largely, yes. A gramme difference on spec. (there's more variation in practice) and this chart shows the 3PT to be a little stiffer off the back of that gramme.

TBH I like Skinnies more than 3PTs for No Good Reason but they are elusive buggers that I had to scour Europe for when I wanted some for the T(alo)NT Zero.
