Post your Favourite 'OLD' Kite Pics

Mon Jun 15, 2009 11:53 am

I hesitated posting my threads about the 'Phantom' history, thinking it would be of little interest to readers here. I was wrong. I've had lots of support, mainly via PMs from folks. It seems a lot like looking back with nostalgia, although most won't admit it.

It would be nice to have further kite threads on specific 'Old' classic kites if someone has such information.

For now I'd like to start this thread as I'd like to see some of the old classics again.

I'm going to be really boring and not post a single photo in the first posting, but you've seen probably too many of my 'oldies' recently. When I decide which is my real favourite one of them, I'll put it up.

Anyway, here's a non exhaustive list of kite makes and models for starters:

Action Kites - Fire Dart, Sky Dart
Air Craft Kites - Legend 190, Legend 250
Air Dynamics- Dharma, Outsider, Dark Star
Benson - Phantom, Bantam, Box of tricks, Reflex, Fusion, Tempo
Betancourt - Stiletto, Centurion, Savage
Buena Vista (Invento) - Catalyst, XTC
Flexifoil - Phsyco, Scorpion, Stranger, Matrix
Griffin
Ground Zero - Jester
Herb Weldon - Synchro
Highflyers, Phantom, Bantam, Team Spirit
HQ
Jordan Air - Millenium
Matheson - Sandpiper, Aziza
Mike Simmons- Tracer, Trixter
Mullins - Area 51, S4
Peter Powell - Nylon
Powerhouse - Blade
Prism - Eclipse
Rare Air - Pro cheater, Flash Rat, Flash Angel
Spirit of Air
The Kite Store - Lightflite
Top of The Line - Spin-Off, north Shore Radical
Vlieger Op - Speedwing

Note: above list edited to add ones that I forgot, but posted later in this thread.

Show us which is your favourite :)

Bill.

hmmmm - my favourite 'old' kite - it has to be my Top of the Line Spin Off - the kite that started it all for me! Bought it about 20 years ago - it's in the loft somewhere - I must dig it out some day!

Griffin hmmm……A Bob Child's creation I seem to remember.

Anyone recognise this one I bought second hand several years ago
I was going to stack three for traction but lost out on the other two.

All that matters in life is kite flying, love and work ….preferably in that order.

In the bag; Shhhhh... far too many to mention, don't tell the Missus!

Finally found a photo of my Hawaian Spin Off that I bought about 19 years ago!

This is the kite that started it all for me. I saved up money whilst at University and took a coach to London to visit the Covent Garden Kite Store and buy it. I haven't flown it for years. It's in the loft somewhere. I must dust it off and give it another fly.

I can probably add photos of Northshores (STACK has 8 full sets; Kona, Radical and VIP, from various sources including the AirKraft sails), and a Flexi Matrix. I had a Fizz Tempo (my first real kite, passed it on to a friend). Vee has an Airdynamics Darma, thanks to Zippy.

You missed out the Airdynamics Darkstar of course :-)

Maybe I'll find time to photograph them soon.

And i als have a psycho, Prism Eclipese (the ugly one in kareloh's post) and about 10 speedwings. I'll try to take pictures one day and post them.

Damn, i would kill for a flexifoil Scorpion....

Nice Jordan Air Millenium - I always fancied one of those. Dean Jordan was a real craftsman and made some beautiful kites.

It's nice, but nothing compared to the craftsmanship on the Synchro :)

Formerly Ian's, formerly mine :-) Tim Elverston, now of Windfire Kites, thought he might actually have sewn this very kite. And the Synchro.... it is off the scale for attention to detail.

I'll have a trawl later.

Mike.

If it helps him remember ISTR it was originally made for Paul at Kosmic Kites.
