Tricking up a Matrix

Can it be done?
If not, I think it maybe time to get rid as I don't fly it anymore.

It certainly can do the basics... stalls, axles, half axles, fades. And all those rather well. I moved on to trickier kites before I pushed mine any further, but I suspect anything much more radical would be a stretch.

It backspins quite nicely amongst other things. A very tricky kite for its time and size.

Backspinning a full-sized Matrix is not a job for the faint of heart. Do-able but if you're used to kites helping you with a trick you're in for a harsh, painful lesson.
There are tweaks that help out (rigid standoffs for one thing) in some respects but otherwise it's more of a trial than it's worth (for me) to get a lot of modern~current things done.

Richard Debray had a go on my full sized vented matrix one time I was in Paris. He actually thought it was the dot matrix.. not realising it was the full sized version. This didn't stop him, however, happily trotting out trick after trick.
He handed it back saying.. "ah yes, good, but not precise enough in the tricks"
If you wish to backspin easier, try adding a small amount of weight to the lower cross spreader leading edge connectors.

Another mod. just crept back into my forebrain: fit a solid ferrule at the centre-T. Make it quite a big un too.
I can't recall where I heard this one but I did try it and it makes quite a big difference to the kite. I do know that I saw a video way back when of a seriously modded Matrix looking quite the trick machine for the time. It's probably languishing on a hard drive back home but I'm not there.

Wasn't there also a classic bit of Robertshaw flying with a Matrix in Tricky Flickery. I seem to recall that the kite was being given a fair work out trick wise!

I love the matrix but I really think it has to go.
Still a crispy sail all bar between the wis^H^H^H standoffs, gone like silk, slight wear on the left of the top spreader dacron.
Prolly worth more in the carbon (SS 5) than complete :'(

then take a trickkite out and trick around the matrix
