Gem UL Vs. Talon UL

Is there any real comparison to be made between the (new) Gem UL and the Talon UL? What are the defining characters of each?

I'm very interested in upgrading to one of these ULs (or maybe both! ) and originally had my heart set on the Gem but now I'm of two minds (not having flown either but having read endless praise for both). There's no chance of me trying either before I buy so I'm looking for any useful advice.

Cheers.

Two very different kites, both equally entertaining.

Why do you say there is no chance of trying? You might live near other flyers who can give you a go, or at least some advice or a try on analagously different kites. What kites do you have experience on so far?

Welcome.

Can´t really comment on which you should buy, because I have´nt flown a Gemini. But I´m quite sure, that you would *NOT* regret buying a Talon UL.

I´ve had mine for some weeks now, and I´m thoroughly thrilled with it still, and quite certain it will be one of my favourites for years ahead.

And when the time comes (read : money), to get a vented kite for those few stormy days, my eyes are firmly locked on another Talon.
:P

Chances are pretty slim. I live in Northern Japan.

So far, I only have experience with the E2. I'm that rare breed of n00b that still has only one kite.
I figure I need a shiny new UL to give me more of a chance at flying when the winds are too low for the E2. It's the only way forward (so I explained to the missus). ;)

Oh and thanks for the welcome. :-)

I love the talon ul. I find I fly my talon UL in all conditions now, even howling winds. Id agree they are vastly different. Whatever you buy you will be happy.

Have flown my Talon UL in 14-15 mph winds, and it has survived long gusts of more than 24 mph (talking several minute long gusts). But I definately think that it performs the best in 4-8 mph. More than 10 mph, I would stake it down and put up a standard. (If I had one. If all things go according to plan, in the next 14 days I will have a standard, oh joy.)(Though my standard won´t be made by Mark. Hope I don´t regret that.)

The above not to be understood as it is´nt much good above 8-10 mph, I just feel that it performs best below that. But what a great kite it is, and I am thoroughly happy, that I decided to order one.
:D

Ps. I would´nt mind owning a Gemini UL though, or DSUL ( that one looks nice), or a host of other kites. Would´nt trade my Talon UL for any of them, though.

So what you're saying Adam is that I only need to make 1 kite and charge £650 for it?

Sounds good to me!
