Ok, the titles not quite right. I had a dual line kite in my teens. Could control it well but only basic controls. Not many tricks. It was a fairly small delta.

Now in my thirties I fancy picking up a kite again. I'd rather not buy something I'll only want to upgrade in 6 months. Looking through threads and various kite sites I'm really confused as to what to start out with.

I was looking at the Kites Ireland site. Quite like the look of the level one black pearl. Would this be a reasonable place to start or should I really go for a cheaper alternative. Will it be easy to use for a beginner? If I did go for that size would it be 25m lines for it.

Sorry for all the questions. I'm sure you've heard them a hundred times before!

Two questions back: what do you want to with your kite, and how much are you willing to spend on one?

The black pearl is 200 euro new which would work out at around 160 pounds so somewhere around that mark.

I've got no experience with the Black Pearl, so can't comment on that one. Have a look at Tim Benson's Deep Space. Bit more expensive new than your £160, but worth keeping an eye out for a good second-hand one, as they pop up for sale quite regularly.

Excellent. I've had a look at the Benson site and the deep space does look the business. I'll keep an eye on the for sale thread.

Ha, I know how this goes. I got in to coffee a few years back. You start out with some basic kit that you think will last you forever, next thing you're remortgaging the house to pay for a new grinder

Took the saber out for the first time today (been busy recently and was waiting in lines). Woah, it was too strong a wind for it but enjoyed getting it up in the air. It was far to fast in the strong wind and had some pull on it. Have up fairly quickly as I was worried I'd loose control and put it nose down in the sand. Can't wait to try it in some more suitable wind and see what it's really capable of.
