Bridle Adjustments

Mon Sep 06, 2010 10:41 am

Did my maiden voyage at Bristol yesterday on the Beast II, the bridle seems to be way out, 3 leads to the leading edge the centre of which is very loose, in flight this makes the leading edge bend and then flick back out as the centre one seems to be doing nothing.
The top lines are also very loose making take offs virtually impossible as the kit falls flat onto its belly.
Is there a general rule of thumb for adjustments or is every kite different or is it just a case of trial and error?

Best option is to ask for help AT Bristol festival of the 20-30 FA (ir)regulars that were there at the time. D'Oh! seem appropriate here :-)

In fairness, we were mostly tucked into a corner behind trees and bushes and stuff - thought there was a goodly big bunch of us. One of us even used the actual arena, he looked quite comfortable too. ;-)

Which is fine but to be fair, I would only recognise, yourself, Chris, Pierrot and Pete at a push!

I looked Here when I saw that one for sale
but there is no diagram (broken link) showing what parts of the bridle the dimensions refer to,so your left trying to deduce what O,M,A and L mean.

You could try posting on the forum-seems helpful and English widely used:

O = Upper outhaul
A = Lower Outhaul
M = Inhaul
L = Keeper line - usually between O and M to stop the bridle snagging around the tail- usually fairly loose.

Also found this test HERE. Doesn't really answer your question and the Google translation is pretty crap but it may be useful as there doesn't seem to be much on the web about it. ( or many other HQ kites for that matter).

look out for the kites! They seem to be almost always owned by an FAer.

What about the BIG one next to the main arena, along with the info display, 3m x 3m. How much more publicity do I need to cart around?

Andy, if you are volunteering to do some sewing...
