Dave,

I've sent you a PM (Personal Message).

Wowza, how very interesting. Apologies for digging up and old thread.

I have a Highflyers Shadow that has been packaged in the deepest recesses of my wardrobe. Got it from the Covent Garden kite store in London (in a mad moment, as you do). Must be about 15 years old. Never taken to the skies, how sad. Anyway now that I have young kids I might give it a blast, though I'm trying to restrict 'em to their cheap "Spirit Of Air" kite off Amazon (Javelin, very nice).

I did unwrap the Shadow the other day and put it together. Initial thought.... wow thats a big kite!

Take it Highflyers went out of business, a Google search reveals not very much on them, except for this site.

Any insight on these, easy to fly, unforgiving etc....

Nabbed this fella the other day. Took it out for some fun in the sun, and flies wonderfully! Forgot how low the wind-range can be!

A good find. One of the early 1990 models with Black/Orange/Blue label and blue LE tape tape.

Thanks for sharing it with us.

I have now gathered together the information I posted in this Thread and the others Threads that I started in 2009 about the history of the Phantom Kite. It can be found in the Facebook Group entitled 'Phantom Kites' ( https://www.facebook.com/groups/586380618066242/ ). That Group can now be a place for reference and for people to post photographs of their own Phantoms and anything related to the Phantom kite including any 'Wants' or 'For Sales', flying experiences etc..

I wanted to share a pic I took today of a Highflyers I recently acquired (estate sale).

It is in stunningly good condition and looked like it had rarely been assembled, if at all. It even has what appears to be original black rubber bands on the lower spreaders, both at the centre T and lower spreader/leading edge connector points.

Couldn't resist putting it up for a few minutes, just...to experience it.

A completely different era of flight.

(Hope I have done this properly)

I loved my highflyers phantom. Flew it so much I wore it out.

When my highflyers phantom was too worn out to fix I cut it up and made a few kite sleeves so it would live on.

Bill,
Do you still fly kites, I have just ordered a Benson, 2 weeks ago, live in Barry. I have a few other kites including Jam Session, Session, a few self build. Andy

Hi Andy,

I don't fly so much now but I still have quite a nice collection of Phantom kites.

I moved house to Newport recently so maybe we will meet up to fly one day.

Thanks for the comment.
I am not active on facebook, although I do visit the open facebook forums from time to time to have a peek. The group you direct me to seems to require logging in when I tried. (My loss perhaps.)
All the best.

I must rig one up that way sometime for a bit of fun.

Had my Benson Deep Space about a month now, what a terrific kite, completely different to what I have been used to. Flies brilliantly . Tricks coming slowly.
