Sorry to hear about your kite.

This is an open question on the topic: in cases like this would it be advisable to have the police involved to log an incident of property damage?

mmmm, I spend quite alot of time in police stations (work only!). I'll get an opinion... unless there are any police who frequent this forum that can give an answer.

I tried when a dog got my Akuji the police weren't interested in the slightest.

I am not surprised to hear the police weren't interested.
To cover ourselves perhaps we should have our own insurance. I had assumed that my kites are covered on my home contents insurance like bikes etc, although never checked this (probably not covered then)
Is it worth looking in to insuring the kites for damage/theft and 3rd party cover if you should hit someone, on a separate scheme?

Do these dog attacks occur whilst the kite is staked out on the ground or whilst you are flying?

@Dave In my case the kite was dead on the ground. I was talking to another flyer with my back to it. The dog hadn't been chasing it beforehand, the guys were crossing the field.

@booty I don't remember if mine was covered on household, but pretty sure it would've been uneconomical to claim. STACK membership covers you for 3rd party for up to £5M! http://stackuk.org/index.php?section=6

That's what makes it so galling that a dog which is clearly more dangerous than a kite can run around uncontrolled and completely uninsured.

My memory is failing me; didn't someone here look into getting insurance against damage like this a few years back? I assume they didn't come up with anything.

So I was out flying my Rev this afternoon when two labradors came and sat in my flying space looking very expectedly at me! Eventually there owner strolled up and I mentioned the need to be careful as the kite was very expensive. She did nothing to move her dogs so I asked her to do so directly. She then went on to explain how her husband had walked the dogs a few day's ago and a kite flyer had let them chase the kite, so now they thought that was the game!

Fine for an experienced pilot in good wind, but interesting to think some dogs could have been encouraged to chase kites by the kite flyers themselves.

It would be interesting to hear the 'kite-flier's' version of events.

You can imagine my joy to see this sign has been put up at my regular flying spot. It's a school playing field so very sensible of the school to put up these signs at every entrance :)

My joy was short lived though when these two and their dog come walking through bold as brass, what you got to do??

My new replacement kite arrived from Tim last Wednesday so as agreed at the weekend I took it (along with the invoice) to show the dog owner who settled up in cash!
A happy ending for a change.

Next one, Rog's T4:

Reaction of the owner? "Oh, sorry". Nothing more ... Pointed out the value of the kite and that his dog was responsible, but he didn't want to know about any responsibility ...

Have already e-mailed Peter Taylor to ask about feasibility of a panel transplant, as all the sail damage was in one panel. LLE was also gone, but that's an easy fix.

I can't believe it - the dog owner actually said sorry!

Hard luck mate. I know what it feels like. :(
