^ As do I .... what a sad sight ...

A dog owner as responsible as that is rare, so the silver lining of a very dark cloud.

What a bummer. :(

Worth an email to Tim to see what he can sort out for you - suspect it won't be cheap, but cheaper than a new DS.

I've contacted Tim 'cos my biggest worry is that when I orderd the kite last year he told me he only just had enough of the Magenta material left in stock to make it... I hope he's got another supply 'cos a replacment has got to be that colour!

Bl00dy Hell Gaz thats a real mess!! At least the owners done the decent thing ( for a change). Labradors don't usually bother kites too much, it the feckin' Border Collies and terriers you have to watch out for! Hope you get sorted soon.

Not my experience with Labradors - it was two of them that ripped up my first Gem (the first one ever sold) - but at least the owner paid that time. And border collies are the only dogs I'll let chase my kites - or at least two of them that I know that if I land the kite they just sit next to it and wait for me to take off again.

Have to admit I've never worried too much about Labs. I've lost a couple of kite sails to Rottweilers and to Terriers. Border collies have done nothing more than give me a heart attack as the belt towards the kite, however they've never wanted to do anything more than round it up (with me in between).

Just goes to show you can't be too careful.

Hope you manage to get it all sorted soon, Gaz.

For what it's worth I am very sorry to hear about the DS. That is one nice colour scheme too!

The only consolation is that the owner appologised profusley and offerd to replace it. He gave me his phone number (which I checked there & then) & went even whiter than me when I told him it was a custom made £200 kite!

Hopefully the owner will realise that actions can have expensive consequences, and try to control the dog better in future!

You could always repaint your VW.

Sorry your kite got got. But at least the owner was good guy. Hope you get your replacement.

Good news so far, I've spoken to the dog owner again tonight & he's told me the dog is insured against 3rd party destruction of property. We've agreed on a sum of £150 as the kite was only 12 months old and I reckon there must be well over £50 worth of Skyshark & Black Diamond spars & spreaders I can slavage plus all the APA fittings.
I'll be placing my order with Tim next week...

I was dismayed to see your pic of the ravaged DS, but glad things seem to be resolving themselves OK.
(no compensation for the weeks you'll have been deprived of kiting though!)

Most responsible dog owners seem to have insurance these days, which is a help. But you may have been lucky that your particular dog owner was insured against damage claims as well as vets' fees.

And of course, it's the b*gg*rs who don't bother to insure that usually cause the most damage, isn't it?

Good to see one dog owner acting responsibly.

Makes me wonder why 't that sort of third-party insurance isn't compulsory (along with a license perhaps?)

Speaking as a dog owner, I think insurance should be compulsory - a dog has potential to damage other peoples stuff without warning, especially in the hand of an irresponsible owner.
However, like dog licences which were abandoned, how would it be policed? Number plate and tax disc on every dogs bum?
