YOUR KITING HIGHLIGHT OF THE YEAR 2006

Mon Dec 18, 2006 10:59 pm

Think this is the 3rd year of posting this thread, oh how time flies (pun intended)...your kiting highlight of 2006......

Mine....Megateam Flic/Crazy Drivers/Team for fun and TFS at Berck on the first Sunday, looking around and seeing one hell of an audience in front and to either side of us, then we landed for about 20 seconds, them Steve Matchett saying "Don't look behind you", with that, i turned my head 180 degrees only to see a crowd of about 4 deep watching....my heart rate went skyward.......but what a feeling!!!

Crantock and meeting Tim just totally rocked, as did all the other events we attended be they good or bad weather, festival or meet.

I suppose for me it was the moment when the Woman at Del Monti said "Of course you can, verbal permission now and in writing next week"

Jest of Eve Kites was born and I was mega-multi-stoked!

Probably Bali: http://www.festivals.tug.com/bali06.pdf

But other kite stuff we enjoyed included:
- Berk - Flying the big kite in big wind
- Cervia - With a side-trip to Venice
- Hardelot - even if the weather wasn't at it's best
- Rougham - a lucky escape from disaster
- Wychwood - Music festival. Loads of space, time to relax.
- Sunderland - Malcolm's gem. Maybe the last?
- Blackpool - Big kites to set the stage for the Red Arrows
- Normandy - trip to pick up tyhe Kite Kat
- Richmond - Hot day overlooking the Yorkshire countryside
- High Force - Where we get a field to ourselves
- Solfest - Setting the atmosphere for music.
- Taking Peter Lynn to see Brunel's Bridge at Exmouth (and the original Ashburton)
- Bristol - 3 days of flying with Avril
- Dieppe - Both weekends. Disgracing the Unofficial British Contingent
- Vienna - Flying on an island in the middle of the Danube
- Getting new toys - the football and the Panda.

We have too much fun!

Eventually managing to do a 540 (IMO one of the most graceful of tricks) after two years of trying!

@Sftonkin - hey you beat me to it, thats mine too! I agree though, the rotation almost seemed to go in slow motion - very graceful! I just hope i can repeat it with my new kite.

Looking forward to some festivals next year as they seem to be a few peoples highlight(s).
Progressing nicely!

Being lucky enough to buy a Synchro for a very good price. THE most graceful kite in history.

This
Buying it & then having to wait 2 weeks to fly it!

Did me wrist in the day it arrived

Ain't all the best things worth waiting for
All that matters in life is kite flying, love and work ….preferably in that order.

In the bag; Shhhhh... far too many to mention, don't tell the Missus!

For me, one of the best was Dieppe. Besided meeting a few FA folks, I also got to meet and fly with Lam, Mattieu, and Richard. Really, just the whole weekend was great...weather, people, camping, France, kites...I will really not want to miss this festival ever again. As chill as they come, I would guess.

The only thing I didn't like about Dieppe was my skill level. I have improved alot since then, and I'm sure I'll be much more actively flying next time there!

All the best to everyone in 2007!

I've read the above and my highlights dont really match up to the others I'm afraid, but for me:

- Finally getting organised to go night Revolution flying (using a white sail backlit by LED's :-) )
- A perfect early morning flying of the HQ Shadow at Fleetwood - totally peaceful, sunshine, sounds of waves, steady breeze - perfect.
- Feeling that at last some progress with the dual line flying (OK very small progress - I would love to nail the 540... maybe next year).
- Stacking 2 Revolutions together in Denmark - and flying just outside the cottage by the beach (was April and bloody cold!).
- Getting to a solo Revolution ballet slot in the arena at the MKF fun day. Watched by 2 people, but was fun (just had forgotten that "Money for Nothing" by Dire Straits lasts 8 minutes). I guess it looked a bit odd, but I very much enjoyed doing it.
- and finally getting a Trident standard (in lovely shades of green) - this is actually for Christmas but it's going to be good!

Roll on 2007 flying.

I'm dissapointed, Obi!
I thought you liked the Amsterdam Harbor meetings! ;)

Sorry, Karlo!!!

You're right. The real highlight was the first visit by the harbor. Meeting real folks near home.

It's got to be that day at Portsmouth. Just one bonus moment after another.

Easy one for me, the 10 days I spent at Berck in the spring, having fine time with The Flying Squad, FLIC, Crazy Drivers and Team 4 Fun.

I have no idea how I will top that trip this coming year, but, I'll try!
