The DS is a fairly tough kite - I have never managed to break any part of it other than getting a small rip in the sail from a barbed wire fence - and spares won't be an issue if you do need any

Oooo the knuckel straps I have all ready beeing drooling over them. Going for diy line as i was thinking of making a 12m set for practice sleeving them and stiching. However they are orange mmmmm, orange and purpel

12m is going to pretty short for flying a STD. The shorter the lineset the smaller the window and the less margin for error. If you're flying a STD you'll need some wind ... which will further reduce the margin for error. People who fly on short lines generally use ultra lights or super-ultra-lights / indoor kites - unless they have other-worldly skills and reflexes (Chris Goff).
Others may disagree but I'd suggest at least 50ft and preferably 60ft for a STD. So make a 2nd, slightly longer set up too

I was thinking 12m would be better for practice lines for landing recovery only and then move on to 15 20m . I thought this would give me more control for learning but may be to short.

The closer you are to the kite (up to a point) the easier it is to watch the effect of your inputs - which is good for learning tricks / recoveries etc.
Your 12m lineset may work well for what you suggest, but for more general flying its going to be cramped and likely frantic.

Hi thanks Fraser that my intension. I was thinking of making my own line. I could get a set 20 15 12 m set hopefuly. I can't seem to find 15m lines premade
so I though this would be the best option.
