Highwaymen have been around for years, and normally at big festivals too, no problems at all.

Seriously, you ordered on Monday which means they posted on Tuesday and your complaining Thursday

As Craig said. I've been buying from The Highwaymen for years, both via their web-site and at festivals. Never had any issues and will happily order from them again and again into the distant future. One of the few reliable kite shops left in the UK. And you can't blame them for the cost of posting (not set by them) or the speed of Royal Mail (not under their control).

That`s why I asked the question!

I`ve never used them before so a simple yes they are a good company would suffice.

As for the postage, £4 for a first class letter that takes 5 days to arrive (assuming it arrives tomorrow....or at all) is not good in anyones book!
If it were something YOU bought from any company you would be questioning the validity of it.
Think on.

I assume that £4 is P&P which will include a jiffy bag and going to the post office, I'm sure they'd be really happy to hear you pissing and moaning about a 6 quid order.

Are they responsible for the Royal Mail's service?

Think on!

I worked as a postal delivery driver, both my uncles worked at Mt Pleasant as postal workers until retirement and I do get a bit sick and tired of people blaming the Royal Mail for tardy postage.

I know the cost of a Jiffy bag, I know the cost of business franked mail (which is heavily subsidised to help business), and I can guarantee that when I recieve this it won`t have £4 of stamps on it!

Needless to say I won`t be using their "service" (sic) again not because of this issue but because of your turning this into a pissing contest Craig.
Well done for losing them a customer.

I've had a few things from there and had nothing but a pleasant experience. Sorry to hear you've not.
Remember that he is just a small business and might not have posted it out as soon as you ordered it?
If you are still worried about it, you could always give him a call.

Always had good service from The Highwaymen. The problem with ordering small stuff online is that postage prices are often fixed and based on larger/longer items. I had a similar problem ordering some small bits from Prism , the online shop wanted around $40 to ship a small jiffy bag of parts but after I'd emailed them they actually only charged me $7. For small stuff like this that you can put in an envelope it's probably best to give them a phone call, I've always found them very helpful.

The people at the Highwaymen are some of the nicest people you could meet. If they've made a mistake and forgotten to put something in the post (anyone can make a mistake) just give them a call and ask if there's a problem.

I hope you get your bit of string.

18 posts and you've managed to get the back up of some of the most respected and longest-serving forum members, not to mention have a go at one of the UK's best kite shops. Good stuff.

If you didn't like the postage, no one made you complete the transaction.

Maybe take a time-out before you jump in with both feet next time.

" you've managed to get the back up of some of the most respected and longest-serving forum members,"

No...only Craig.

"not to mention have a go at one of the UK's best kite shops"

It wouldn`t matter if they were selling lawnmowers...bad service is bad service..if I pay over the odds for a service I expect to get it, irrespective if it is a bit of string or a Plasma TV.

I`ve found most forums have a clique, whatever the subject or common interest and I`ve managed to find the clique in this one in only 18 posts, which is a record :-)
Needless to say I won`t be frequenting the site anymore (which is no great loss to either me or the site) there are plenty of other sources of information out there.

I would say a fond farewell but I won`t, I`m leaving with the impression that there is at least one person on this forum I would happily punch in the face should I meet him in a pub.

Highwaymen are fully legit. I have had nothing but first class service over the years. Have you actually phoned them up and asked the simple question???

Your last sentence is an embarrassment - you have just come across as a right prize prick.

What a fuss about nothing! The bottom line is there is a bottom (and top) line - it costs money to run a business and although a bit of string has a low intrinsic value, by the time someone has bothered to stock an item very few people want, advertised it on their website, processed the order, packed it and taken it to a post office I would be surprised if anyone is making much of a profit on this transaction - it is basically being done for goodwill and to provide a service that I, for one, value greatly. Highwaymen, and the FA shop before it closed, enabled us to buy bits that are pretty hard to find elsewhere in this country to keep our (apparently not all that popular) hobby/pastime/obsession going. Wingeing about a £4 postage charge is just churlish and shows very little understanding of the state of the market.

My advice is try to group purchases together so shipping costs form a smaller percentage of the total, or just suck it up and be glad that someone, somewhere is even willing to sell you the special bit of string you need - at the end of the day, what is a new bridle worth to you? In the case of a delay or misunderstanding, I have always found contacting the people directly involved is much more effective that having a rant on a forum.

2p from me.
