what to buy ?

Mon Jul 15, 2013 1:52 am

Hi
I'm new this forum and would like to pick your brains !
I have been out of the trick flying world for 3/4 years now and would like to return but it seems that some of the kite manufactuers have stopped trading ... Mullins ... robertshaw...
Kites like the Area 51 and the Dot Matrix that i once had aren't around anymore and would like some advice on whats changed and been going on and what everyone else is now flying ..... where can I buy from ? And whats the best in your opinion .. it seems like Benson are still a very popular .... not that I didnt absolutely love what thay did and what they still doing but is there anything else on the market....
Thanks for your time and I cant wait to get my hands on my first new kite.

Thanks
Dave

I'd go with Benson - either a DeepSpace or a SuperFly: www.bensonkites.com

Best-in-class build quality, capable of all the latest tricks and not something you'll grow out of.

The latest tricks are arguably easier on the SuperFly, but the low wind performance is slightly better on the DeepSpace - and you can have that in custom colors (no up-charge)

Have to agree with Frazer.
Superfly - endless possibilities in the tricks and combos.
Build quality- you know what you get from Benson.

Carl Robertshaw still makes kites. Checkout the "Fury", apparently one of the best team kites on the circuit.

I wouldn't buy a KRD kite as I think there is much newer and more user friendly kites available now.

I like the DS and the superfly but would not recommend the SF as your 'only' kite. I would want something bigger with a better lower wind range. The inputs on the SF are still slightly unusual too and don't readily translate to every other kite. The DS flies really low for a std kite but does not have a super deep turtle like the SF. The build quality on both though is still the best.

How about a talon?

Thank you very much for your very kind advice
I have contacted Tim Benson and I'm ordering a superfly and a deep space.

I am how ever still on the look out for an Area 51 ... please don't ask why ...! And a Dot Matrix if anyone can help.

Thanks

Dave

I'm sure you can dig up an Area 51 at a fair price - put a Want To Buy (WTB) post in this forum:
