Anyone in Swindon?

Sat Jan 26, 2013 10:43 pm

Hi guys

Anyone in Swindon to help me progress?

I have a crappy HQ Atomic I am using to learn on (Not a good kite to learn with, but got a few basics) I will be getting a T Benson Superfly in a couple of months and his Airbow (I just love the quirk of it) but I could do with a few trick pointers.

I work offshore and have plenty of time when home...:)

So anyone out there when I AM back?

Off to Africa next week, but back end of Feb.

There is an indoor event in Swindon on 3rd March. Details are on kite calendar if interested.

There indeed is, organised by Karl and Sara Longbottom, and I'll be there. But not sure that event is useful in getting tips on flying your Atomic. First of all, the Atomic isn't in indoor/SUL kite, so it won't fly there. Second, the event is basically for single-line kites. I was at the last one, in November, and there was no dual-line kite present. All single-liners: Laimas, Plutzes, Zero-Gs, iFlites, Emongs, Walas, Pterodactyls, Hybrids, etc.

Contact Karl. As far as I'm aware, he is the sole UK importer for these kites. They're a lot of fun, by the way; I borrowed both an iFlite and an iFlite II last time in Swindon and played with them: very floaty!

Back on topic...

Marcus, contact White Horse Kite Fliers, they have some dual line fliers amongst their membership. Joining a club will help with insurance and support.

Hi,
I live in Swindon, moved here a couple of months ago so I don't know any spots.
I usually fly a nirvana from r-sky and I can do the majority of the freestyle tricks.
Just say something if you need any help.

Hi Guys,

I'm based in Cheltenham, but also fly in Stroud sometimes. Happy to meet up if you find any good spots locally.

hello Marcus,

I am close to Swindon (Faringdon), and can give you some clues for decent flying sites :

Most likely spot to find other flyers is either White Horse Hill (Uffington), or Barbary Castle (south of Wroughton). White Horse Kite Flyers used to have their monthly fly in at Barbary on the first sunday of the month, I haven't been to one for a long time, but guess they still happen. WHKF and mainly single liners, but not all, and a friendly bunch.

Closer to Swindon you are, you can fly at Lydiard Fields on the west side (near M4 J16).

I tend to use White Horse hill most, or Faringdon School, but that's due to proximity.

Let us know when you are out and about.

Tony

Hi Guys

Good responses there! Thanks....

I am in West Swindon and use Lydiard mostly.

I was in contact with WHKF last year and intend to go to a monthly meet sometime.

I also left a comment on the most famous 80+ year old kite flier in the world's web site...Ray Bethall.......and got a personal answer back! What a guy!

I hope to get a Benson Superfly this year, plus an Airbow for the hell of it. I have spoken to Tim, but order is a way off yet. I need spare dosh...and got a £1200 shed to order first....

But I think I will get an HQ Jive 2 for now.......just to practice....lawn darts!

I will be offshore again soon, but I will catch up later and give you a nod for your offers...:)....thanks for that.

I also used to live in Cheltenham....sister still does..Uckington. She lives on Uckington farm and I will try flying there and maybe up Cleeve hill?...mmm

I took my whole bag down to Australia to see family over Xmas and new year, but local area was really bad for wind and not nice to fly in 40C like I did....very bad idea...I got very ill when I overheated! I left a few kites down there for the lads (6 & 9) to get them going.

But the main aim for me is to get the tricks and it is not easy alone. Not easy with the wrong kite either!....I am learning the hard way...:)

So I will be in touch in a month or so.....

Thanks Mozi, but that area is too big I drove around there and none of the places that I saw looked adequate. Do you mind posting a google maps location?
