Power kites

Thu Nov 06, 2003 10:37 pm

Looking for some friendly advice - I think this is the right place :-)
My 10 year old is keen to do some power kiting. We have a symphony 2.7 which he find Ok but he would like to fly when the winds are around the 5-10mph mark and still get some pull. he can fly dual line and understands the basics of kite flying - edge of window and zenith to cut down on pull - as well as some dual line tricks. So, which would be best - a Bullet 2.5 or 3.5 :-k

Jeremy,

Bullets are designed for buggying, the drag they create has very little
uplift. What is he looking for? Scudding, jumping, buggying or just having
his arms pulled out?

The Ozone Little Devil is a good alround power kite - Blades are very
well built and have a broad range of sizes.

Flexis are good in that they can be stacked with different sizes and
can therefore be added to and taken away depending on wind conditions.
But, they are best flown with somebody else as stacked fexis are a
nightmare to launch.

Firebees are very cheap (not as well built as blades), so you can buy
a range of sizes for the price of one blade.

Hi Gary - He likes the idea of landboarding as well as general pull and jumping. Looking through a couple of sites the Bullet gets good reviews as a good beginner kite so thats where I started. Richard at Tradewinds thought they were a good bet as well so...

He can axel, lazy susan and has backspun a kite once, but his patience is limited. I think he would be good if he stuck with them but I'm not going to force it. He'll get back to them I'm sure when he gets alittle older
