log in automatically on laptop... does the same in safari on iPhone.

Safari just takes me straight in - logs in automatically.

I'll log out on iPhone, then try tapatalk, then log back in again in safari, see if that works ??

Sorted it... not sure how, but sorted anyways :-)

just gotta work out how to post / reply to posts in the app now ?? Doesn't seem to be any buttons anywhere.

I'm usually pretty tech savvy - but this one's eluding me !

FYI
I just installed the free version on my windows 7 phone and it works fine, read only but much better than using the web browser on the phone.

Personal choice. If you check many forums then having them all accessible from one app, all rendered in a readable format can be quite useful. They also have a handful of mod and admin functions that are easier to use through the app then in the small browser.

Weird! I've just upgraded my Tapatalk app, Forum (WebOS) -- it now tells me that I've had too many failed login attempts and that, in addition to username and password, I have to resolve "the CAPTCHA below". There is no CAPTCHA -- below or otherwise!

Hopefully that should go away once you've logged on succesfully through the normal forum. Obviously check your ID & password in the app settings.

Nope, ready tried/checked all that (and rebooted the phone). Problem persists. (doesn't happen on other forums I use it on, but none is phpBB)

Edit (12:34): Tried logging out of the forum and in again on the netbook -- exactly the same happened (re "exceeded the number of attempts" CAPTCHA) and it required the sending of a new password and reactivation to be able to get in again. Now the phone reports a network error and "can't connect to the server"; again, checked with another forum and all appears well.

I'm still having exactly the same problem... have given up - it's easier to view in safari.

I upgraded the Tapatalk server code as that was slightly downlevel. Maybe that will fix the problem.

Now fixed. The logging out, etc seems to have done the trick. Andy, do you think the Tapatalk issues may be relayed to the login problems that you mentioned elsewhere?

Very likely. It looks like there's some kind of bot that attempts to crack simple passwords by retrying. That's what triggers the 'X failed attempts, please complete a CAPTCHA' login method, which unfortunately isn't supported by Tapatalk. There is some discussion on their forum about CAPTCHA integration, but I get the feeling that might be deeper than they want to go.
