Parafoil build

Fri Oct 23, 2015 6:21 pm

I know..I know... it`s not got spars, dosn`t axle (fractured or otherwise) or fade and is probably more suited to a kite-surf-bum forum  but.....I wanted to see if I could build a half decent size parafoil/power kite (after having had some practice building some half decent freestylers  ).
I also have a couple of Longboards here on the wall that only get used when Morrisons carpark is closed so thought I`d extend the Paris trucks and stick some Baby Buggy wheels on them

Anyone interested in this build? Where should I post it?

So I`ve built my first parafoil :D

I had a hiatus in the freestyle builds and wanted the hone my sewing and design skills on something different while I came up with a plan for my next builds.
I decided (with a little help from the interweb) to design and build my own 4 line parafoil that could be packed small but be able to tow me around in a moderate way (talking about an adapted Longboard (skateboard NOT surfboard  ) or just some scudding on a tea tray or cheap plastic sleigh should the snows come.
I looked at all the forums and decided it was best to start from scratch rather than copy or adapt, or indeed to use any published plans.
I`ve had experience in model aircraft building I was well aware of the designs of wings, and profiles so did a bit of research and came up with the best solution for design.
Namely a medium profile with a wing of medium to high aspect ratio for low/upwind use rather than a towing machine!
This way I gave myself the best chance of performance in the conditions I have here (namely inland and never smooth winds!)
I`ve also bridled it with an AoA adjustable bridle (AoA, angle of attack) rather than fixed bridle so it can be tweeked and the set to go out of the bag.

I`ll post picks of the build here but it can be moved by the Mods as I didn`t want to put it into builds when it`s not a freestyler.

Please be assured I`m back on the dual lines and halfway between two builds that might be interesting ;)

Pics here: Comments welcome, thank you :D

Well the winds were gusting to 46mph yesterday and today they are gusting to 2mph  at the moment so I`ll wait until I have something more suitable wind-wise before I fly it.
I`ll just grab a selection of my light wind kites and have a practice session today instead :-D

And just for you Misterbleepy, one of my Longboards ( I have two and yes I did build them myself! :D )

Nice build. Made one myself some years ago was the first kite I made and was based on the Sky Tiger. Still have it somewhere? Found the plans made for it not long ago.
