It's a pity the trickout was judged by only two people who did talk to eachother before announcing the winner for each round.
It should have been at least 3 (or better: the pilots themselves) without consulting.
For me, Chris was better in the final round (against Richard)
But as always, judging is subjective :-)
Flying now: B'zar 2010 STD and UL, B'zar 2011, BatQuartz, E2, Elixir, Modded Gemini, Flashlight, Sweety, Deepspace, Superfly.

I've watched this prolly 10 times today - it remains completely mind-blowing.

Insipiring and depressing in equal amounts :D

Chapeau, chapeau, chapeau !

We've seen this sort of performance from Chris plenty here on the UK scene, in fact it's also not dissimilar from the show he flew at FWC 2005, except that was TP rules and so scored poorly. This is freestyle ballet - open to interpretation and so earned a well deserved accolade.

What was the wind speed during the comp(s) ?

It looks/sounds like it was blowing pretty good which makes the flying all the more impressive.

Somewhere between 15 and 20mph, I'd say.

@ ~1:51 How does he pull that cascade down like that ? :?

I know theres lots more impressive flying ... but that aggressive cascade is very cool ... mine just sit
at the same height in the window ...

I think the first time I saw Cascades done that way was by Mayet at the trick comp. ran at EuroCup 2001 in Stokes Bay. It was as if he hated that Impact (which so many other people did). IIRC there's some of it to be seen in Aeolian's video of the event and why can I not forget things like this ? :?

And yes, it's all about pulling the kite downwards and plenty of hand speed. Fresher winds, a double espresso and a wilful disregard for the consequences help.

Mike.

Those vid's are very nice! That v-masque is a sweet kite as well... Not that much smaller then a fullsize but a lot more radical. I flew Wim Smekens' v-masque in Lommel once. I believe it was framed with those fancy carbon mesh (look) rods...

The V Masque rocks ... its a lot more agile that a full size Masque. Only thing that bothers me is the retro construction, specifically the lack
of any trailing edge reinforcement, which means its a comparatively fragile thing. I managed to cut the trailing edge and a panel in one session,
and thats the only time I've effect inflicted such injury to a kite.
