I propose a get together

So the sun is playing its part this summer and for once it feels like we can stop moaning about the bad weather for flying in the UK.

I propose a get together, like the enjoyable ones we used to have at Hinckley. It has been way too long. I miss those days. You could learn more in an afternoon than months of lonely flying. Was also a great opportunity to check out new kites, put faces to names and just have a blast.

Can't help but feel that the UK scene needs a kick up the ass, and it needs us all to make an effort and travel to wherever maybe chosen.

Anyone interested? No is not an option 8)

If this is in reasonable reach of Essex and I’m free 100% up for a meet. I’d love to learn how to fly properly.

I'm always up for a fly meet.  No idea whether Hinckley is still a sensible area to meet up, but it is as afar as I would want to travel for a single day's flying (~ 2 hours from Manchester).  Probably a bit far from Essex, I would have thought, Frayz.

Out of interest, is anyone in the Essex area that would like to meet up and maybe educate me on some freestyle delta flying?

Feels like I’m kind of borrowing this thread, not being very active in FA, but hey, kiting is kiting, knowledge is knowledge and OPKs are OPKs

Posted in KL and FA:

I’ll be in Sidmouth (in the SE part of Devon, UK) for two weeks starting Sunday 22nd of July. If anyone would happen to be in the area and/or know a good field within an hours bus trip from there (I have no access to a car during the period) and like to share the sky and kite knowledge, please let me know. I have done a fair amount of kite practice there on previous visits, but access to beaches/fields is a bit wind, people, tide and cow dependent, especially when not using short lines. But hey, it is a beautiful village/surroundings. And nope, I’ll miss out (going home when it starts) on the nearby Exmouth kite festival.
For some years I have been doing DLKs (yes (with a decent success rate): axels, landings, card flips, sleeping beauty (if the ground and wind is OK), 540, axel cascade, lazy susans, FA to fade…; learning: flick flacks; no (way José): comets, back spins, taz machine…). A year ago I started with Revs and have for the last year (winter and summer) been doing Revs (B-series “no”/mid/full vent and recently a Rev Indoor) 75% of the time (and Smithi Pro quad). The reason for the large share of the Rev was to be prepared for NKM ( http://kites.aerialis.no/memories-from-the-nkm18/ ) and now because I’m going to the John Barresi Danish quad clinic in Copenhagen in September.

I have managed to do kiting during my first two days here. However since you are likely to travel far I could go to Exmouth by bus (leaves hourly) to increase the chance of finding a good kiting field I SUPPOSE. I have never seen the place, but they are going to hold a kite festival there soon, so somewhere there should hopefully be a place with decent chance for good conditions I mean.
If instead going to Sidmouth and being by the beach in sunny weather you better bring short lines (yesterday I did QLK on 8.2m lines, but today there was more room so I could use 15m lines). Going to the east up in the mountains (hills?) can mean a bit turbulent winds in worst case or going west is quite far by foot (about 1h and I have not checked it out this year). Another option is to use low wind kites in a park here (named The Byes) with large enough fields (surrounded by trees) in them. The wind here is typically on the lower side as I have seen it during my visits. Be warned, indoor like stuff is quite new to me – can only occasionally do a 360.

Kites I brought on the trip:

Low wind: a (new – need to learn) Rev indoor, a Prism 4D and a B-series 1.5 std Rev with a Skyshark P90/2PT frame and a HQ Shadow

Mid wind low: B-series Mid Vent, ITW Kymera

Mid wind (quite wide wind ranges): ITW Hydra, Level One OneEleven, Spiderkites Smithi Pro

Mid upper:HQ Maestro3

Higher wind: B-series Full vent

Did anything happen about a get together?
I haven't flown at all this year but I am thinking about getting back to it, a get together would be great.
