I especially like the bit about getting VF12 rolling fairly soon. 8)

You lot are being shockingly agreeable recently. :-k

Any dissenting voices to be heard before I update the website ?

I agree with every  because I'm a lazy bastard who never enters Virtual Freestyle!

Seriously, though. There is that moment when the kite has vanished from frame for long enough to think "WTF?". That is bad. If I was doing a video with Mr. Tripod I'd make sure I could see the bounderies and keep within them as much as possible. Surely this is how ABW made such nice vids?

I think that peer-judging should take this into account. If it's gone for an uncomfortably long period then surely editing could be involved? If the guy is out-of-frame briefly but back in with some action quickly it should be considered part of the 'static camera blues' and not a big deal.

I would have thought that a long period whilst the flyer struggles to get his kite back into frame would be indicative of NO editing.

A dead giveaway would be if a kite departed the left-hand side of the frame and immediately entered the right-hand side.....especially if it appeared to have transformed into the UL version.

As an avid VF spectator, because I can't manage to get enough continuous flying on video to enter (though not for want of trying :( ) I have, however become quite adept at editing my footage to use OOFs to cover up crashes and join to gether decent bits of flying to show my family & friends what I do.

I would say if you are concerned about editing, the time OOF is hardly relevant as I can (and have) made a kite fly out and back in from completely different segments of video pretty smoothly and look like a convincingly brief loop off shot. If you think about it, editing allows you to trim the time off screen; genuine OOF flying doesn't.

The giveaway is always the background and clouds. Stuff moves in the wind and if you look hard enough there's nearly always a discontinuity or blurring as the two shots are faded together.

I would say don't set the rules just to rule out editing - you should be able to spot it if you suspect it.

Long may VF continue (because statistically I will manage to keep a kite in the air for > 2mins eventually. Don't hold you breath though!)
