Any changes needed ?

Fri Nov 14, 2008 6:09 am

I'm just bouncing ideas here so don't take it too seriously:-

a) 29 entries with many people taking the full 90 seconds lead to a long time staring at a screen writing down numbers. Is a entry/time limit necessary (just in case) ?

b) Divide into classes ? Scored only within these classes ?

c) In = Take off, Out = Landing ?

d) Major prizes still drawn ?

e) Piero only allowed to fly a Barbie Pro Stunt™ ? :P

Owt else ?

Mike.

1. Well, I for one am all about avoiding classes. I can fly much better than this past offering. My video was all about submitting SOMETHING...rather than nothing. Classes will only discourage folks.

2. Take off and landing...IN and OUT would be fine with me. It would certainly lower the number of successful entries, though. You would also need to clarify...must the landing be 'clean' or does a noseplant count?

3. Piero only allowed to fly a Barbie kite...for sure.

+1

I entered to contribute something to the wider trick flying community and to feel part of something bigger.

Personally I like that there are no classes. I know that it will be some time before I am amongst the top competitors, but it does give me a way of measuring any improvment in my flying against other flyers.

How about a prize draw restricted to those who've entered for the first time? It's easier than a "skill level" classification. Perhaps with a different draw for repeat offenders^h^h^h^h^h^h^h^h^h^h entrants? (Ignores verification issues for sake of simplicity)

I disagree with that ... a random drawing is fairer ... and it will continue to
encourage people to enter videos ... not just the once.

Actually I like that :-) Not for the main prize but for a prize certainly. Last round for the most I tried to let to donor decide how their generosity was used.

Re: landing = out. I'm not a big fan of this. I've seen enough STACK routines screwed up as flyers try desperately to land and make a complete balls of it.

Re: classes.... just an idea I threw in so you could throw it out again :P

I think a compulsory landing at the end would make it much more difficult - I like the idea of just filming your own flying for a while with a few take-offs in there to provide starting points, and then picking the best minute that starts with a take-off. You'd need someone to call time if a final landing was compulsory, and that makes it logistically harder...

I personally think to allow Piero to only fly a barbie kite is nonsense...

A Flexifoil 6ft stacker or NPW is safer! ;)

Tails, preferably one on each wing-tip.

I would prefer it if he flew it by the tail.

I also vote for leaving the rules as they are after all when was the last time 29 people entered a kite competition.

I think it is good as it is.

I do not like the idea of classes. I know that from AKA competitions, I have been enjoying placing lower in masters much more than consistently placing well in experienced last year. I would rather have gone up against real competition, otherwise it seemed to be a rather hollow win.

Regarding flagging, I do not think it is a good idea. I don't think we are looking for new kite fliers, but rather new participants in VF. If I were a new flier, I would be greatly encouraged by seeing the very broad range. Kinda gives the reminder that folks like Piero started off as not so good fliers (I assume :))

I mostly agree but I want to make sure we all agree. :-)

For those of you that took part last round, was there a sense of that being enough videos to score ? Too much ? You could have gone on all night ?
