More than half of the scores are now in. The problems with viewing Emil's video are hopefully behind us now, as are the bandwidth issues with the main website thanks to Thomas.

We have seen one perfect score (10:10) so far so at least some people have been impressed.

10:10?

hmmm... not sure that's possible philosophically.

Doesn't leave anywhere to go does it?

I have little time for philosophy. I like numbers.

Doesn't leave anywhere to go does it?

If it's already perfect why would you want to go anywhere else :-k ? Or is that too philosophical ? :P

Everyone's scores are their own. If I see something that I think is dubious I'll ask... once... but that's the way VF works. And it works.

Here's some induction to go with your philosophy ;)

Assume we can't give a top mark because that would be perfect and doesn't give us anywhere to go.

So, let's remove it from the allowed marks. Marks now go from 0 to 9.

But 9 is now the top mark, ie perfect. By our first assumption we are not allowed to give a 9, so let's remove it.

And so on...

Everyone scores 0. Well, that's saved me an hour or so this evening then.

I'm not saying a 0 or 10 would never be warranted.

But.

If a 0 is involved, Applique and "You Are The Wind Beneath My Wings" better be in there somewhere.

Similarly if a 10 is involved then Angels better be getting wings.

0 and 10 comprise the framework most of the time IMO.

The scoring guidelines say that 10 is a score for perfection. I humbly suggest that's a mistake.

If the guidelines instead suggested that you give the best flyer(s) in the competition 10 points, then those who suffer from philosophical angst could be pacified.

The definition of perfection is a moveable feast. That which is 10 worthy today may not be tomorrow. Such is the elusive and ethereal nature of perfection. [-o<

Personally I've got no problem whatsoever with someone awarding a 10 within VF. I might take issue with a string of 10s however.

maybe this is of help...

its from a site for photoshop competitions online and it explains marks from 0 to 10 in a (to me) fair way...

1 - Any entry you rate a 1, should be flagged at the same time. If it's so bad as to deserve a 1, it shouldn't be on worth1000. We don't need to list examples. You'll know them when you see them.
2 - Any entry that is horrible. It probably should also be flagged.

3 - An entry that is below average. Definitely needs that extra hour of work or thought. Easy things have been ignored.
4 - An entry that could have been good, but is missing that extra 15 minutes of work or thought behind it.
5 - It's average. Not great, not bad.
6 - It's better than average.
7 - Great idea and execution. It's much better than average.
8 - Terrific idea and execution, and something that sets it apart from just being "great".
9 - This is almost perfect. The idea and execution are fantastic and there is a special something that makes it really stand out.
10 - The execution is perfect and the idea behind it is brilliant. This is the best thing I have seen on this site in a while. "Wow!"

the stuff in there about working on it a few more hours could be translated to months of practice for kites...

and flagging is not done here but I think that only a kite not staying aloft longer then 10 seconds and then crashes should get a 0 :-)

what is "flagging"? is it when the flying is so bad that you call the bruisers and ask for some justice to be done?

that might put off some newcomers.

(but seriously, what IS flagging? I'm worried about entering PS comps now).

wel, the competition this comes from has a standard of quality...
it the image you post is not up to that standard your picture is removed..

its a photoshop competition (www.worth1000.com)

flagging is asking a moderator to check the image for this standard of quality or use of cliché images (the ones used over and over and over again)

somebody entering a VF and flying figure 8 for the full 60 seconds for example... something that would scare viewers away from looking at the other entries if they saw that one first....
