Hosting Videos

Mon Mar 21, 2005 10:20 pm

Found this the other day:
http://www.putfile.com/

You can upload without signing up to anything, they give you a link to the video embedded on their webpage, so you can't easily download it, however any videos you watch via this site reside temporarily in your Temporary Internet Files folder (in Windows XP anyway) which is going to be somewhere like:

C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files

You can then copy it from there to anywhere else on your hard drive.

Nope, I hadn't fallen off the map. Although one would be excused for thinking so...

...if you have a little peep at the source for the page - there's an http link in there directly to the video/picture file that you can use for downloading - useful for those who cannot work out where their browser cache is (like me!)

Well spotted. If anyone uses this method, then you need to do View -> Source (works in Opera and Firefox, can't remember where it is in IE) and look for a line that starts "<embed type=..." for link to your movie.

It looks like they rename the actual file to something convenient for them to keep track of though.

OK - Last weekend... As long as I get the location of the file by the close of Monday (your local time) everything'll be fine.

Options for upload are:

1) Host it yourself, and send me the file's location in an email.
2) Email the video to virtualfreestyle@gmail.com (10mb maximum file size)
3) Upload it onto http://www.putfile.com (thanks Andy) and email me the location - I'll sort out the direct download from there.

Apologies for not getting a more official means of hosting the videos sorted out this round - I'll try to get something better sorted for next time...

I'll send all the above details in an email to all the competitors by way of confirmation.

Best of luck!
Davey
