Maybe instead of a price cap, have a price-inverted point bonus. So, if you use a £25 dog, you get a 2x bonus. If it is £5 plastic minger you get a 10x bonus. The problem is that cheap kites are small, and small kites require inhuman reaction times to trick. Beyond that, cheap kites break repeatedly. You'll need fathomless patience 1) to learn to trick a bad kite 2) to repair said kite every 40 seconds 3) to video said patched up kite on that rare day the wind is OK, and all the while you have a bag of beautiful kites that you could be flying instead. I know the temptation would be too great for me.

Don't get me wrong, I think it's a good idea, but
1. How do you get people to see the videos?
2. How do you get people to see the videos? If in real life the question on everyone's lips is "why can't you fly your kite?", it isn't going to get any easier in a video.

Make it a long term project maybe... get a beater out of the library or one of us just go buy a £50 Prism, HQ or some-such. Post it around and each who want to play do a 90sec VF style vid to post up in a dedicated thread, then pass it on. Like the one kite trick outs we did a few years back. May take 12 months, but still...

I would say don't get hung up on the video promotion part.

If 10 people were to get such a kite and then film what can be done with it and then sell/pass on to a complete beginner then there are 10 new kite fliers out there with something that they know is flyable. This was my crazy idea.

I think this is a fantastic idea, might be an idea to find a few kites and do a vote or test a few?

I can't get much for that budget here in Singapore.
Does chinese-made (albatross/Freilien/3wind)
count.? some of their high end cost atleast £100.
Not the rip-off but their low price trick kite
but not sure what tricks I can get off them tho. Hmmmm..

just an idea..small but with a modern design at least.Another one for spare parts..

I'm still not sure who would go out and spend £50/60euro a kite to fly for one video then sell it for a loss to some one in the park.... or have I got it wrong?

If enough people would like to have some sort of special round with A Reasonably Priced Kite and to hell with the permanently disinterested public then why not pick something from The Library that fits the bill, arrange to pass it around over a reasonable period and when enough videos have been made.... there's your round.

Cost of postage at worst. You might be able to just hand it over to the next guy.

Well I did say it was a crazy idea.

Well.. I for one would. Who knows they might turn out to be the next Goff, Debray et al... and then it would be money worth spent. Not everyone has money to be able to do such a thing and I'm fortunate that I'm in a position to be able to. Perhaps I'm alone, but I would like to get more people in to the sport and I see this as being one way to do it.

If I wasn't given that go on someone's kite many moons ago, then I wouldn't be here today.

There doesn't seem to be much decent choice in this price range which is worrying. Are we really saying that the entry level is over £100?

Perhaps this is a bad idea.. but there we go.
