I haven't done any scoring in ages so I thought I would as Yan offered the link. This meant watching the videos a bit differently to how I usually do. A coupla things:

  • What is happening at the start of Shao's video ?
  • What is going on with kostaaa's ? :-&
  • Thanks should be given for the invention of the Jacob's Ladder or lord knows how some of you would fill the time
  • I really don't like videos where the kite is repeatedly being pumped into the sky against its will
  • ....almost as much as I hate out-of-frame time
  • Whilst I see a difference between the top and bottom of the scores there is a very busy midfield

VF is still as much fun as ever though :-D

Fer real. Errr.... dude. 8-[

Hat mounted camera with a wide angle lens?

I'm seeing a weird pseudo 3D effect that I hope is due to a rolling shutter and not lingering effects of Shao's video. It is twisting my melon, somewhat.

Perhaps we may see an entry from you next time Mike. Then you can show us all how it should be done. You know what they say mate, Put up or shut up.

No, it's not 3D effect.

Drift HD Ghost, mounted on helmet, 170* POV, which is a bit cropped because I used proDAD Mercalli 2 image stabilizer (with Adobe Premiere CS 6).
Without the aditional video stabilizer the picture was even more shaky. It did great job, quite good result compared to the original footage. I know it's possible to reduce the Rolling Shutter effect too (the camera has CMOS sensonsor)... but I had no time to test all stabilizer's settings.

krijn, all my entries till now are edited... but I put Noise Reduction and adjust the levels in order to get better video quality.
I'm happy that on my new camera there is no need to adjust levels and colors.... simply because they look sooo natural.
My video has also unsharp mask... which I think is fair to be used. I will never use for example speed up/down or Hue sweep (like this on Shao's video).

by the way..... here don't says anything about "unedited" videos, something changed maybe!?!?:
http://virtualfreestyle.com/index.php/about-vf/competition-rules
25 MB limit -> fast correction, bravo!
here is still the old 20MB:
http://virtualfreestyle.com/index.php/about-vf/hints-and-tips

"Enable the "deinterlace" feature of your video editing software if it has such a setting."
it's not correct.
Progressive footage -> Progressive rendering (so disable deinterlace). If your camera records at 1080i (interlaced) instead of 1080p (progressive) than you need deinterlacing filter.

GoKiting & have fun!

Krijn means editing as in making cuts in the flying part.

....almost as much as I hate out-of-frame time

Guilty!

The issue gets mentioned in the FAQ, but I will add something to the rules to make it more clear.

editing - cutting - idontknow

in my opinion a VF-entry should be flying for 60-90 seconds without any messing with the video

an intro can be nice (carlo!)

i don't think shao cut in his video, by the way

Just for entertainment purposes, here's my VF 25 entry.

Only watch it if you've got nothing better to do for the next 5 minutes, and there's no actual kite flying.
