website help....

Thu Mar 31, 2011 10:23 am

I want to create a world map for each VF round so people can show where they are from (mostly to satisfy my own curiosity). In a perfect world it would be on the individual round page of the VF website and people would add themselvs to it...
Is it possible?

Yan :-D

there used to be something called Frappr that was good for this, but it looks like it's dead or costs money.

I came across this while searching around - no idea if it's any good, but it seems to be free if you have ads on the site:

Google maps will allow this with either a public (anyone can update) or private layer. The rev forum has a member map which I think is Google derived.

See this topic in the rev forum for a bit more information:

It should be possible to embed a google map in your webpage, definately possible to include a link.
It flies through the air in exactly the same way a dual line doesn't.

I have not searched the archive but a few years back there was a link on this forum to a map where we could place a pin at our location. Maybe this was Frappr as Keith says.

If you're prepared to update it yourself then I'd have thought Google Maps would be the way to go since VF uses Google Mail and Sites at the moment.

You can create your own placemarks then embed a link to that map, with maps size to choice too.

I've had some experience with Google maps, Yan. PM me if you think you need some help.
