I would like to see competitions run like this:

As it is, precision on one day, ballet on the other
8 (57%)
All of one discipline in a day, but whole thing across two days
2 (14%)
Everything on one day
4 (29%)

Total votes: 14

How do you want competition to go?

Thu Aug 06, 2009 9:54 am

OK, based on the feedback on the other thread, Lets have a show of hands. Please, only vote if you have some intention or desire to compete in the UK, you won't be held to it but I'd like a feel of the real situation. For tricks, or more specifically TP, this has always been run on one day, just we have split the classes across two days, ie novice one, experienced the other.

I think splitting the novice and experienced TP classes across two days is not good. Many people can only attend one day (this usually applies to me and is a big reason why I don't do the 'serious' competitions) and I think the novices would benefit from being able to see and get feedback from the experienced flyers.

Is there a button or something missing on this thread for me to click on to cast my vote - or am I just being thick...

Anyway - been away for a couple of weeks and missed most of this, but my vote is for ballet one day, figures the next. Gives a good excuse to stay the whole weekend for me - not that I'm the most consintent attendee, but that's often (always) not through choice.

Also, I can't quite believe there are only 11 (12 with mine) votes on this so far - typical UK apathy I s'pose... ooh, one other thing - does my vote actually count ? it would seem that there are two too many lines on my kites for many here. I'm not big into forums generally (hence the small number of posts), so not really interested in the multi specific one's - I choose to browse here 'cos generally it's a nice place to be and it would appear to be the chosen STACK broadcast medium - rev bashing isn't really going to encourage any new flyers onto the circuit. I fly cos I enjoy it. I compete because it's a good reason to attend, and I really don't mind the public humiliation - I know full well there is no chance on earth of ever coming anything other than last when there are only 3 other competitors who just happen to be among the best in the business worldwide. It's just plain old good fun, and newcomers should be encouraged across the board.

Right - rant over... so, two days for me please.

STEVE.

Given (a) the invocation only to vote if you intend to compete and (b) the fact that I have exactly zero intention of competing in any precision comp, I thought my failure to vote resulted from respect to the invocation, not apathy...

Try again Steve, I had made the vote end after 7 days, but I've changed it to neverending now.

BTW you do realise that you are this year's STACK novice champion don't you?

And whilst I'm in charge we will not be dropping quad...

...sometimes I can be dictatorial :-)

Is it apathy? How many people are competing this year? How many of them read FA?

I have an opinion, but as I don't intend to compete right now I don't think it's fair of me to vote here, especially if it might affect people who will compete next year.

It's not my vote, but I'd have thought it would be more use if people voted irrespective of whether or not they currently compete.

If anyone/everyone voted, even with no interest in competing then the result would be skewed. I did not say currently compete I said vote if you have an intention or desire. It is the people who might just compete I want to hear from, what would tip them over the edge and get them in the arena.

Okay - vote cast.

Novice Champion - do I get a badge then ?

As you are still in charge I can still look forward to next years comps then - can't see me winning a thing though as I assume it'll have to be 'exp' against young mr goff & the robertshaw's - but hey ho I'll give it a go.

Cheers
STEVE.

Well, they are in masters, so there is an experienced title to win next year (and forever if your scores stay below 60average)

As for the badge, there'll be a little something... Turn up at EuroCup and you'll get it awarded personally.

Didn't think you could have a champion where only one person competes?

Who said there was only one competitor? Steve was best of the novices, in quad this year.

STACK does sometimes get more than one novice a year

...and why shouldn't we celebrate his win - all those 'better' fliers didn't bother to compete, you have to be in it to win it.
